Randy Galloway weighs in on the subject via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. A better column than the DMN's Kevin Sherrington wrote, in my opinion.

Excellent article by Galloway. Thanks for posting. I agree that Craig James probably should have gone to the head coach first with any complaint. However, we don't know for sure that he did not try to approach Leach on this subject and we also do not know about any pattern of behavior by Leach toward James in the past. For those who would judge Craig James, I would invite you to read his recent book. It starts slow but once getting into the meat of the book, Craig James, IMO, comes off as a very perceptive, highly intelligent and likeable person. I do believe that James and Leach cannot help but both be damaged by this episode. However, as perceptive as James seems to be, in his book, about the politics of network TV and college athletics, it may be a measure of his devotion to his family that he has gotten into this situation.

It is ironic, to me, that I can relate a little to the whole situation. In 1953, I was a not highly recruited end on the freshman team at Texas Tech. There was an assistant coach there who coached the lineman who heaped more verbal and physical abuse on the players than I have ever seen or experienced. Everybody on the team, varsity and freshman walked softly around him and the varsity that year wound up ranked 12th in the nation and beat Auburn in the Gator Bowl. That coach later wound up at Georgia where he continued to terrorise players according to a Georgia lineman of that period I know. Later, at a small college in South Texas I receiced a concussion in a tackling drill. I was knocked out but still on my feet when Dave Smith, an assistant there, noticed that I had made my three tackles and was still in there. He pulled me out and took me to the sidelines and nothing more was said or done about it. Those were different days and a different era and I am sure many others who played in those days can relate similar experiences.

Adam James may just be the tip of the iceberg, folks. It seems there may be more to come out...
