Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?Yes, I originally posted this in another thread, but I think it belongs here instead.
------------------------------------------- Chalk me up on the "Please oh please Lord do not let Adam James come to SMU" crowd. a) I don't think he's a good fit, skills-wise, in the run and shoot. b) I don't think he's a good fit, attitude and work ethic-wise, with our team and our coach. c) His father, while a great college running back, and a passable commentator, is a known father with "little league syndrome" providing a ton of "input" about how the program is run, and how his son is utilized. While I'm certain June could handle c), it would be a distraction given Craig's status in the media and at SMU. Sources point out that b) had been an issue with Adam almost from the moment he stepped on campus at Tech. This could certainly be exaggerated if he never hit it off with the coach (or it could be the REASON he didn't hit it off with the coach). As far as a) Adam's skills seem best suited to a small tight end role, and yet he seems attracted to programs that do not run with a tight end. Why not consider a school that runs a more traditional offense? Or possibly a smaller school, where he could be an absolute standout (if he entertains ideas of trying to play professionally)? While going to your dad's school holds an understandable appeal (heck, *I* did it), I'm not quite sure I understand Adam's attractions to football programs that don't appear to be a good fit for his abilities. Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?Yes. I wish we were in a position to send out gold engraved invitation to the select few that we feel can play for us. But we are not. JJ has a reputation of turning kids into players. AJ may not be a receiver but a monster back or linebacker or some other position. That would be up to JJ to decide. Even if he doesn't make a starting position, a kid with BSC experience running on our scout team would be a huge benefit to our defense.
Emails from Leach supporters don't hold much significants to me. I am sure I would have a poor attitude if I was stuck in Lubbock playing in front of the TTU crowd with the worse uniforms in Texas week in and week out. The kid may be unhappy which has a lot to do with attitude. And JJ to me is a heck of a lot better at handling kids than Leach. Leach may be a great coach but he hasn't impressed me as much of a sportsman. Perhaps AJ, as spoiled and rotten as the emails declare he is, has a sense of sportsmanship that is in conflict with the TTU attitude. If so, then his failure to conform to the Leach model is a huge plus to me. I would welcome the kid and treat him the same as any other kid on the team.
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?I say "No".....after reading the letters this kid sounds exactly like what we don't need.
We're doing fine without him and obviously he is not some major talent. If this kid had a sense of entitlement at Tech...OMG what would it be at SMU? I hope June is not pressured into taking this kid because who is Daddy is. C-ya @ Milos!
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer? He sounds like a bad influence. That said, I feel like people are saying "well, he was a really annoying drama queen, so we don't have to treat him well."
I hate people that try to discredit the other side of the debate instead of procuring facts. Either way, I don't think we need him at WR. We're good there.
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?why are we even having this discussion? 'Cuz his dad played here? that's ridiculous.
DO NOT WANT. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer? His bad reputation was discussed before he even signed with Tech. Jones spent a year cutting players for the same kinds of problems. Just because his father played her is not a reason to give him a spot on the team!
Furthermore, (again, I'm not defending what Leach has or hasn't done if true) I'm sure there are things Jones' staff does that could be exaggerated and spun to make Jones look just as bad as Leach does now. WE DO NOT NEED THIS LOCKER ROOM CANCER! "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer? No way. The kid would never consider SMU, anyway. Wasted speculation. Craig James needs to continue to distance himself, too.

Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer? Not only no but hell no.................
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?Maybe we could work him in as an additional mascot. After all he is a colt born of a pony express.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?Talking to a good friend of mine, his son is a senior on the Tech football team, according to his son the James kid is a "Pretty Boy." He is fairly well liked by his teammates but does not work very [deleted] or off the field. The dad also stated having met Craig James several times, thought he was nice but had a high opinion of himself and yes Craig was at Tech practices many many times. Almost to much in my friends opinon.
So my answer is no, I do not want this kid anywhere near the SMU program. Because I do not want his daddy hovering over JJ like he does Mike Leach. What in the hell is wrong with people? GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer?I'm glad to see that all of you "SMU Fans" have bought Mike Leach's character assassination hook line and sinker. But answer me this:
Adam James barely got Texas Tech's last scholarship-nobody else really wanted him-he was a greyshirt nobody expected to get on the field. Answer this one question-if Adam James had no talent, was lazy, had poor work habits, and was a problem in the lockerroom how the hell did he get on the field so early in his career and get significant playing time throughout his career. IN FACT, ADAM JAMES HAS BEEN AN OVERACHIEVER-with admittedly limited talent. To me the character assassination is non-credible for this reason. "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Would you welcome Adam James were he to transfer? The only relevant question at this point for SMU would be "does he help us?" I won't pretend to know the answer to that, it's why we pay Jones the big bucks.
And yes I am using "we" very figuratively here.... I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
