SMU celebrates its greatest season in 25 years and to commemorate this you wish to downgrade? Truly America is a strange place.

I have heard tale, though, that President Turner once attempted to create just such a conference.

If the MWC does expand to 12, SMU really needs to be proactive about joining. I would think the other MWC teams would like another TX team for recruiting purposes (although UH might get the nod since TCU is already in DFW); however, I would think TCU would do everything in their power to keep us out. What would they gain from more recruiting competition from a MWC SMU vs. SMU being hampered in a less prestigious conference?

East Coast: "...I would think TCU would do everything in their power to keep us out..."

You're dead right about that one. After all, they've already proved it!

The only way way to make D-I less expensive and more competitive is to go to one platoo football. It will never happen because the NFL exploits the college ranks so they don't have to have a minor league system.

We get into a bcs-BS conference & baseball & track will suddenly appear. Guaranteed!!

Our donations (from supporters & alums) would go up as well as the cartel $$$, it would support the costs of the two sports.

The real truth is that they DON'T WANT MORE CARTEL SCHOOLS & that means us!!!

Leopold:

I know you think you should be working for ESPN but here's another news flash: You're plan to jump to the MWC and then to whatever conference is BS. Will never happen and it wouldn't do anything for us anyway. My whole point is that unless 40% of college football teams band together and demand that the conferences be changed, than we will continue to have Collegiate Football's version of OPEC which is also BS. And yes part of that 40% has a sweetheart deal and no incentive to change, no [deleted]. Thank you for pointing that out to me . ANd yes, I know, Vanderbilt, or Baylor aren't going anywhere. But I don't consider what Vanderbilt does saturday and sunday with Alabama and Florida "playing".

"Come to Vanderbilt and you get to play Alabama, Florida, LSU etc..." shouldn't the slogan...rather it should be "come to Vanderbilt, get a great education, and play for a National Title just like all other 119 teams. "

Bottom Line, if the NFL operated like college football, teams like Greenbay, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Indy, and Kansas City would have no chance.

P.S. You right the ACC is an full of high standard academic institutions:

Clemson
Flordia State
Maryland
Miami
NC State
Virginia Tech

AND I'M GLAD YOU HAVE THE WHOLE HISTORY BEHIND TULANE LEAVING THE SEC CORRECT

I have no plan whatsoever to "jump to the MWC" or any other conference - that's someone else's idea. I am realistic enough to know that, barring a miracle, we are were we will be.

My whole point is that unless 40% of college football teams band together and demand that the conferences be changed, than we will continue to have Collegiate Football's version of OPEC which is also BS.

Fair enough - I can get with that. But you have to come up with a realistic option, and the league you are proposing isn't realistic and has been discussed ad nasueum on this board. I suggest we all move on.

I know you think you should be working for ESPN

Bet your [deleted]. It'd beat working for the Army.

40% is not a majority-count up the voting block of the BCS and the voting block of the non-BCS schools. Part of the BCS control over NCAA football is tied to retaining majority control of NCAA Division 1A.
