I have a fairly good idea of who saguarostang could be, and by all means he can take a hit from anyone on the SMU squad... in fact he used to be on the giving end of them, playing at or around the same position that our apparent savior will be starring at in the coming years.

There is this line, and not so fine, that a player has to cross before any smack talk, from him or his fans, can have any real effect or meaning. That includes playing at least one snap in a game, and better yet, crossing over from internet message board legend to a real world player. Otherwise, it sounds fairly ridiculous. I'm surprised Townsend himself hasn't conferred to you any embarassment at this unqualified platforming.

All of us hope #70 and everyone else for that matter evolve into competitive football players, and hence a competitive team. We've seen a few too many 'ships in my book wasted the past few years on players that have no interest in getting better. I'm still paying for my college education and will be for a while. Obviously, it takes a lot of work and success for a high school player to obtain this reward, and I believe they deserve it, but I hate to see the work stop once received. So if what you say about his dedication is true, that's great. But let's not cream our jeans please.

Five Townsend 's....Hell I'd have rather have five Mac's. Mac..Mac..Mac..I love you Mac!

I wouldn't pay a nickle for a line full of Harris 's

Townsend, try playing a few snaps during a game son, before you have your mom write all of these outlandish comments about your playing abilities.

Be cool everybody. We're all on the same team here.

Since everyone seems to be pulling their old games shoes out of the closet... I'm a 6'4" 250lb. TE who could play for this team (shutup WhataSteve) if I could layoff the First & Ten burgers for a few months. Point is, I'm a big guy who admittedly likes to talk a lot of smack.

But I'm no O-lineman. Big (and I mean that literally) difference. Case in point. I lived on the same floor one semester with a little fella by the name of Jerry Ball. We were about the same height, but thats where the physical comparrison ended. Ball would start each morning with a hearty appetizer of Harrises, followed by a heaping plate of Hargises, McCarthys, Gobers and Chandlers. And he wasn't even one of the Fat Kids... he was on defense.

I'd guess today's prototype O-lineman sports between 250 - 270 or more lbs. of lean bodymass with another 50 lbs. of misc. beef on top of that. Hey, 280 is great for a RS freshman, especially if he's as athletic as Hargis is proported to be. But 280 ain't going to move the pile.

If anybody cares, I'm a big advocate of Blue Bell Bannana Cream Pie ice cream shakes loaded down with whey protein and Met-Rx.

Man I'm disappointed in you. Where's the grease....I mean beef! Image
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Yes, Jerry Ball was a bad [deleted] football player.
I think that the problem they people have with someone posting that Hargis is a good football player is that he has NEVER played a live snap in this life. You can be the biggest, baddest, hardest person alive (he isn't that) and still suck at football. I know that the coaches think highly of him, and in the future he MIGHT be good player. However, for now he is a redshirt fresman that hasn't done a damn thing.

I am not his mom. You can look for her under the quite obvious name of SMU70MOM.

But I think that you should remember that parents, family, and friends are who mainly view this site and it is unnecessary and very classless to make comments that degrade kids that are doing nothing but working their hearts out to please the fans.

I also think that once you have taken the jersey off for good, you loose the right to make statements about giving and taking hits. You obviously can't do it anymore, or we would see you on Sunday afternoons.

Again, facts wrong. He has a jersey. He has two. And they have his name on them and everything.

Or you could just lend one of yours, I am sure its in good shape due to lack of use.

One more point....he has taken a snap. Check your record book.

I think that you didn't get the meaning of "putting a jersey on". It means to actually play i.e. to start, to compete in a game.
When you make a statement like:
"All the other coaches are fighting over him to play for them. That is why he keeps getting moved. He is sooooo good he can do ANYTHING"
This about a player that hasn't even seen the field (I don't mean for one snap).

I think that it is good that you support #70, but he still hasn't done ANYTHING.

I think that any of the players that subject themselves to 2-a-days and daily practices and lifting sessions would qualify as doing SOMETHING. The amount of playing time is moot.

It does not suprise me, however, that you would continue to make statements that are obviously ment to tear down something that you are no longer, if you ever were, a part of.

These guys deserve your respect and awe for just working their hearts out everday of their lives regardless of what happens on the field in front of you on Saturdays.

MTSURIM,

Slow down there. I think that when Townsend becomes as 'old fart' like Stangaholic, he'll tell you that once you earn a letter, it's yours forever. You don't un-become a Mustang just because you're not running out of the tunnel on Saturdays anymore.

I don't know who Stangaholic is, but as a former player he deserves your respect just as much as Townsend deserves ours.

Stangaholic is simply making a statment of fact. -- 280 is light. Show me a 280 lb. starting O-lineman at Nebraska (for example) and I'll buy lunch!

So yes, the guys deserve our respect "for just working their hearts out everday of their lives regardless of what happens on the field in front of you on Saturdays." But nobody is going to be in awe of anybody until the Mustangs start bringing championship trophies back to the Hilltop.

And as a former O-lineman (I think), Stangoholic knows that championships will never happen if our line continues to give up 20+ lbs a man to the opponents' D-line.
