mr. pony i sort of think if smu gets in the big 12...it means Texas is gone
no facts to back it up.....just a hunch

If SMU gets in-Texas, A&M, and Missouri or Nebraska and either Tech or OSU will be gone. It still could be a significantly more appealing conference.

i realize it's all speculation...but if Texas left...i assume they would keep playing OU
so i wonder if OU stayed in the "Big 12" & continued to play Texas...would OU strongly
oppose either an SMU or TCU because OU wouldn't want to play in Dallas twice every
other year... or possibly twice every year if both TCU/OU/SMU were all in the same
conference

I think if UT and A&M left then SMU's negative(Big 12 controls DFW market) becomes SMU's positive because the leftovers need a strong presence in Texas. Remember though MWC didn't seem to think DFW or Houston was so essential although they came back later for TCU.

Also I don't think UT goes west w/o taking regional partners like A&M, OU, OSU or Tech. They aren't going to fly 1,000s of miles for all their away games. I say that but I do wonder how Tech and OSU and even OU fit into the academic model that all west coasters claim is so important to the PAC10. Stanford could black ball all of them with a SINGLE blackball according to PAC10 Bylaws. There is going to have to be a compromise.

That's why I think the PAC 10 only adds 2 at first and that would be CO, BYU or Utah. I don't see them making a play for Texas unless they want to expand to 16 which I don't believe they'll do. And I don't think the legislature and Governor will let UT go west without making sure TT and A&M are taken care of. So, it would have to be a package deal for the PAC-10 to get Texas and I'm not sure that the other two schools move the TV dial enough to justify the change and as you said, Stanford has a blackball. If the Big Ten goes to 16 there is no requirement that the Pac 10 follow suit. Pac 10 and Big Ten want to get to 12 so that they can have a conference championship and avoid finishing the season three weeks before the BCS final vote is taken. I think the Big Ten has the added issue of maximizing revenue for its TV network which is why it might look beyond 12. I still think there is only going to be two small changes. Big 10 and PAC 10 each going to 12. Big Ten adds ND or MO, Pac Ten adds the teams suggested above. Result, Big XII has two slots and the MWC gets decimated.

What about the possibility of SEC wanting to push into the Texas market by adding 2 (assuming UT will not go): TCU (or SMU) and Houston? Who cares if they draw well, an SEC team playing anyone is Dallas or Houston will sell out every time. Get a ton of games in Texas to steal market share and recruits from Big 12?

Throw Duke in there for basketball. Hey, it won't ever happen, so let's at least perfect it!

Duke, Vandy and BC would make that a 12 team conference...so that would work. :D
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Boston College isn't in the South, so not them.

Stanford - in the West
BYU - in the West
ND - in the Midwest
Miami - uh, don't know about how seriously they REALLY take academics. I know they are ranked high and all, but I can't get over what I saw on "The U"

So let's take Wake Forest.
