Mustangs Make Second Straight NCAA Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU/NCAA) - The No. 31 SMU women's tennis team will play Pepperdine in the first round of the NCAA Championship on May 14 in Stanford, Calif., the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee announced Tuesday. The winner of that match will face either Fairfield (19-5) or the host No. 8 seed and eighth-ranked Stanford Cardinal (20-1) on May 15.
The Mustangs are making their second straight NCAA Championship and 10th appearance overall. Last season, SMU won its opening match before falling in the second round. SMU is 23-4 and enters the championship with six wins in its last seven matches. Marta Lesniak leads the singles with a 28-5 mark and No. 28 ITA ranking. No. 43 Pepperdine is 12-13 on the season out of the West Coast Conference.
Following the first two rounds of the NCAA Championship, the remaining 16 teams begin play on May 20 in Athens, Ga.
