Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Stallion is right, the Big 12 was tailor made for Texas, and opened up competition for the second tier recruits for OSU, KSU, MIZZOU, etc. to the detriment of SMU, Houston etc. DeLoss Dodds was an old Big 8 guy who stated numerous times that he saw advantages to a Big 8-SWC Merger (meaning lets kick out SMU and Houston, the two biggest thorns in UT's side for many years).
Problem now for Mr. Dodds is that he has no control over the Big 10 or the PAC 10. A Big 12 depleted of the Kansas City, St. Louis, Denver, and Omaha TV Markets is not what the networks are looking for. The only thing that could save the Big 12 if Missouri and/or Nebraska leave would be this TV consortium involving the PAC 10 and Big 12. All they would need to do is bring in Utah and possibly TCU or BYU to replace Missouri and/or Nebraska. Personally, I don't see this kind of TV deal bringing in the money for UT that an SEC alliance would net. Especially if the SEC brings in Miami and Florida State along with UT and A&M.
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Just so you know Utah and Colordo will be added to the Pac 10 June 12th....
So, you can start with that and then deduct... Last edited by NickSMU17 on Sat May 08, 2010 10:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.

You mean the PAC 10?
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Humor and insight from Terre Haute:
http://tribstar.com/sports/x1008080625/ ... -expansion One nugget is the ND, Nebraska, Missouri, Pitt and West Virginia example. If you want to measure appeal based on the quality of the FB and BB teams in a tighter geography with rabid fans, these candidates wouldn't be a bad idea. Doesn't maximum TV viewership in NY, CT and NJ, but the Big Ten is Midwest with midwest sensibilities (and, that is a good thing, LOL) Pony Up
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Through the grapevine...my nephew swims at U of Utah, his AD told him the move to the Pac 10 was immenent...Utah football is recruiting under those words....
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Memphis football is recruiting under the words that a move to the Big 12 is imminent.
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)I don't think that will be happening unless UT leaves....
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Big XII will have to take at least 1 and possibly two or three depending on who all leaves (CU to Pac 10, Miz and Neb to Big 10 are all possibilities, not to get into the UT/A&M leaving thing or anything else), and you'd have to think that so long as UT and A&M are in the conference, they aren't going to take any Texas schools (UT and A&M want to keep their recruiting advantage in the state). So who do you take? BYU, Colo State, New Mexico, Memphis are among the choices and it wouldn't be surprising to see Memphis go to the Big 12. BYU will be the first choice but it depends on if they can figure out the whole Sunday thing.
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Once Utah and CU leave for Pac 10, Big 12 will need to raid Mountain West...
CSU, BYU to keep those markets...
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Big 12 loses no market from Utah since Utah isn't in B12. As far as losing the Denver market, I've heard that CU doesn't really bring it anyway (I don't know that for a fact). So Big XII can try to maintain their market share in Denver or go to try to grab the Memphis market which isn't exactly a small market (but obviously not as big as Denver) They might end up trying to do both. Like I said BYU will be their first choice, but they will have to figure out how to work around the Sunday issue.
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Memphis adds nothing to the Big 12 - dont see that happening
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Agreed. Far East Conference
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)Memphis looks to the East and prefer to be oriented that way. Beside, no once in the Great Plains gives a rip about Memphis Tiger FB.

Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Memphis adds basketball and a media market that is otherwise sold to the SEC. It's not much, but what do the other options add? BYU - good sports and decent following, but won't play on Sundays CSU - Marginal part of Denver market, but sports programs are bad New Mexico - good basketball, but NM media market is almost nothing and football is terrible. Then you get into the options that just aren't happening unless UT and A&M leave the conference and it needs to pick up the Metroplex and Houston in some form or fashion, which are TCU, SMU, Rice, and Houston.
Re: Miz, Neb, Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers to Big 10 (Article inside)
Air Force is another strong option that is no often suggested. Not only does Air Force bring part of the Colorado market, but also a national following of American veterans. Far East Conference
