I do not think we are headed to the SEC, but if the possibility arose, I suspect we could get the necessary funding to enclose the shoe, build a new natatorium, state-of-the-art baseball facility and a complete renovation of Moody within 90 days. Truth be told, probably within 1 hour if need be.

Can TCU make that claim, I don't think so. Even if they could, there is one thing no other school in Texas can do besides us.

Place us in the SEC, and we can compete head-to-head against UT for Texas recruits.

SMU-NYC > TCU-NJ

Are you proposing a new slush fund?

Now that is the kind of commitment we need!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I agree. This is every school for itself. We don't need to offer ourselves as a package deal unless the package deal is what someone wants.

Why the hell would we EVER package ourselves with Rice and Tulane, whose administrations have made ZERO commitment to athletics? SMU frustrates the [deleted] out of me sometimes.

I like what Orsini said when he said we have "HAD" a good relationship with CUSA. Do you think that was just a mistake ? :)

Well it made sense to package with them before, since before 2 years ago SMU also made ZERO commitment to athletics.

"As I have said since I was hired at SMU, our goal is to be top-25 in everything we do. We want to play at the highest level and win at the highest level. Conference USA has been very good for SMU, but as we monitor conference realignments, we know there may be new opportunities for our program. As a department and as an Athletic Director, our duty is to do what's best for SMU. We certainly believe that SMU, with its academics, media market, facilities and overall commitment to athletics, would be an asset to any league. We're excited about the future of Mustang Athletics."

"has been" not "is"

More wishful thinking?

I agree that we are probably not going to go to the SEC, although every SMU fraternity kid from bama, georgia, and lousiana would love it. If we did, we would not be able to build a state of the art baseball facility. Turner dismissed the possibility of NCAA baseball at SMU. Along witht he complications surrounding Title 9, the true reason we cannot and will not have baseball at SMU for the foreseeable future is because we have no where to put a stadium. Turner said that they had looked into it. They would use Glencoe Park as a softball stadium and could get that worked out to abide by the rules of Title 9. However, they couldn't find any legitimate place for a baseball stadium. They even spoke with HP high about using their facility, but HP wasn't too keen on sharing.

As far as the natatorium and moody are concerned, they would definitely be renovated immediately. I had heard rumour regarding Moody and its rennovation. Something about redoing the upper seats and adding some wrap around windows with some boxes. Maybe then we will finally be able to get rid of Doh and have a semisuccesfull basketball team to accompany our dominant football team.

Why wouldn't Burleson Park work for a baseball stadium? That's the park across the street from all the sorority houses - off Dublin, between University and Daniel.

It might be a tight fit, but what a great setting for TV with a baseball park amid all the sorority houses. Lots of camera shots of sorority cuties on their lawns/roofs/balconies.

I suppose the nearby homeowners would put up a huge fight. Not to mention the land belongs to University Park and they would demand a ridiculous price for it.

It makes sense for the SEC to expand west, because they want access to the media markets and recruits in Texas. Also make sense if they want a private school to balance out Vandy. The UH enrollment numbers are so much higher than SMU that one would assume they would be the first private choice.; A&M would be the main prize. If they go to 16 teams, the question is: would they target media market and easier travel (SMU and TCU) or bigger enrollment (Baylor). But that is an awful lot of small private schools in a major conference. I would not be surprised to see them stop at 14 with just A&M and Houston
