Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUIt is scary to think how diluted would the pool of talent be for SMU if marginal SEC teams were able to get a foothold in Texas. I would think TCU would face the same problem as well. As usual, Stallion is right.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUIn other words, we better figure out a way to break the cartel or succumb - & then die a slow death.
We have to fight it, or join it if we're to survive. Which is it? BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUOne who tries to be like tcu wil always be like tcu. SMU is better than that and it is our time. We are on the verge of being better than they have been lately. Maybe they should join our conference soon. Pony P-1
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMU
one of the more moronic things said on the board recently. don't think we are on the verge of going to a bcs game. as much as i love the ponies, pull your head out of your [deleted]. ps. tcu has been good for 10 years now...
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMU
I hope for your sake this is extreme naivete and not extreme hubris. Either way it is embarrassing. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUi dont see that we compete for SEC level recruits anyway. I suppose you might be saying that there is some sore of trickle down to the level just above us like Tech. But really, how many recruits are picking Tech over LSU or Florida anyway. Is the concern that Tech starts losing recruits to Mississippi State now, therefore we are left with smaller pool of 3 stars after Tech gets done? I do think A&M in the SEC could help Arkansas, but i dont know how horrible it really is for us. There are alot more horrible things that we do to ourselves not to be competitive.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUbut TCU does-and they are the ones at the level we want to be
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUOf course if the SEC was really smart they'd add a team in Texas in addition to the Aggies in a major Metropolitan area in the northern part of the state. Hmm, SMU or TCU? Ft. Worth or Dallas? Ain't gonna happen, but nice to at least throw out there.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUA little bit of a left turn here. . .but when I read this article, it reminded me of Stallion's earlier comment in this thread about Tech desperately wanting to secure its BCS future in the PAC-10.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... 4c06b.html If I'm reading this correctly, it appears that Tech played no role in determining the compensation structure of the shrunken Big-12 and was merely informed after the fact. That's amazing and really brings home to me how helpless they are in all of this. I see Stallion's point. If the Big-12 holds together, Tech is OK. If not, they are totally dependent on whether UT decides to take them along to the Horns' new home. If that home ultimately is the SEC or the Big-10, Tech is likely out. Perhaps the same could be said of OSU? It certainly didn't seem like OU was determined to stay with OSU in this latest dust-up. They seemed far more interested in staying with UT. Stallion may well be right that the competing priorities of the various Texas state schools may in fact give the new Big-12 more or longer life than people think. It's a very good point. But I do feel that the league is inherently unstable. Eventually (3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 years down the road?), I think there will be shift and the haves in the Big-12 will move on to greener pastures while leaving the have-nots behind. How does this all tie in with SMU? Keep doing what we're doing. . .keep heading in the right direction. . .keep working towards reuniting with TCU while staying with UH in the short-to-mid- term. . .and over the longer term an opportuntity may well open up to join a conference with the likes of Baylor, Tech, OSU, KU, KSU, etc. I can't express how glad I am that the massive shift didn't happen this year.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUThe best hope for UT in the future may be to solidify the Big 12 and keep it attractive for all members.
It they go to the PAC 10 or Big 10, the SEC schools will make a bigger impact in recruiting in Texas. Might not be much, but it will happen. The recruits would certainly factor in weather and/or the travel for their families. If UT went to the SEC, with or without A&M and the others, the same thing would happen with recruiting, only worse. Don't see UT ever going to the SEC. They can lean on that "it's not up to our academic standards" all they want. They'd see too many 9 - 3 seasons and Peach Bowls. If the Big 12 stays together, they will likely need to change their philosophy on a 10 team league.
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUin the not too distant future
ut will be an independent a&m and ou will go to the sec

Are you in any way employed by the athletic department, or might otherwise influence its policies? Far East Conference
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMUYou must be about 20 years dumber (younger) than me. I recall about 20 years (60's -80's) of complete tcu ineptitude and perennial 2-9 seasons. There is a homework assignment for you if you care to research. SMU, in the early 80's, was what tcu wants to be right now...a team that had a chance to win a National Championship. We should have been ranked #1 in the 83 season...you probably don't recall that do you punk? I guarantee you we came alot closer to that ultimate achievement than tcu has the last "ten years". It seems to run in 20 year cycles. Thanks for letting me educate you. Pony P-1
Re: CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT and SMU
How fortuitous! I had just completed the construction of my time machine! However, I plan on not simply going back to the 1980s, but beyond into the 1930s! A stronger SMU and a stronger Japan! Also, my time machine is a robot. Also, the robot is a ninja. Far East Conference
