Ceasar Plays While Rome Burns

Caesar is on vacation and he is in a bunker hoping all this blows over. All replies have stopped. The last four days have seen his legacy take a hit. Damage control will begin next week when he can start placing blame at everyone but himself for this fiasco. He will get his mouth pieces ready to spin and try to placate us all. Don't by it. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Let's all take a deep breath. What has happened to Hall and Jackson absolutely sucks, and there's no question it was unfair. They seem like good kids, and they deserve better.

That said, I have had some things happen in my life that I thought weren't fair, and I bet most of the readers have, too. If Hall and Jackson are as bright and able and resilient as we all hope they are, they'll survive. They'll be pissed for a while, but they'll survive, and hopefully they'll come out stronger in the long run.

The fact is that students get denied admission — rightly or wrongly — at lots of schools. The details of their admissions cases are not revealed to the public, per federal privacy laws, and shouldn't, since whatever reason is given likely could be embarrassing to the student and his or her family.

This is sad. Jackson and Hall deserved better. If some miraculous convergence of circumstances (i.e. President Turner seeing the light and overturning the admissions committee's decision) can come together to get either or both of these students admitted, that would be ideal, albeit very unlikely. But it's imperative that the program is in better position today under Coach Jones than it has been at any time in the last 20 years. The collection of talent on the team, especially in the freshman and sophomore classes, appears to be the best it has been since the mid-1980s. We will go bowling again, next year if not this year (last year's senior class was outstanding). There remains a lot of speculation that conference movement is still in the future.

Hopefully that — the wins, the improved talent level, the continuation of a trend of bowl games and conference championships — and ultimately a potential move to a bigger and better conference remains a possibility.

IKUS- All you say is true as long as JJ stays with us. He is the only coach in America that can overcome the road blocks SMU(post DP) puts in front of every coach. The real problem is Ceasar can't be trusted.( aka Turner/ Copeland Commitment ). He could have fixed athletics 10 years ago if he wanted, but didn't. That's all you need to know.

If all of this crap costs us Klemm, will we still see the posters on here saying "lets not devalue an SMU education" or "it's bad and the timing was wrong, better luck next time" etc?

Fixed in what way? Balance the athletic budget? No way. Top 25? Hopefully ... maybe ...

His highest priority, of course, is the best interests of the entire university. If he deems a remedy for athletics as counterproductive to the improvement of the school on the whole, he's not going to do it.

Curious about your thoughts: how could he have "fixed" athletics 10 years ago?

This Caesar doesn't fiddle. He has an agenda for everything. Unfortunately for us, in athletics, it is just to say we have a program and maybe win a few games but not really try to be Top 25. You can't be Top 25 with a goal that incoming freshman have to average a 1350 SAT. The two goals are not compatible. But what is missing is that if they want the red ink to stop, they have to get us to Top 25 to even have a chance to do that. Denying admission to good athletes will just further delay us getting to a better financial position for the Faculty to be receiving the support they want.

I disagree. All you have to do is raise the average SAT to 1355, and you can admit all the athletes you want. Overall, it'll average to 1350.

Besides, a 1350 ain't what it used to be.
