SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?Found this about SMU admissions....is this true?

Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?Yes, SMU is fairly easy to get into. It was definitely my safety school. I was admitted to Texas, Tulane, and Southern California. For me SMU was just procedural, whereas the others while not that difficult are more of a challenge, and they are not even considered extremely selective.
Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?At least back around 2000 when I was applying to colleges getting admission to SMU was a joke. The trick was getting scholarship money. I was always OK with this - you need to be able to get in the kids of rich people who will pay full tuition to pay for scholarships for the rest of us.

Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?No it's not easy anymore. Just look at Cox-every year the gpa to get in goes up. I think it is around a 3.4 now. It was a 3.2 about two years ago. I know plenty of people that got denied recently who are now going to Texas, TCU, and even Georgia

Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?Admission may or may not be relatively easy. There's no doubt it's getting more and more difficult at SMU as the number of applicants continues to increase. But it needs to be said again that the quality of education when you are in is very, very high. Important to remember when you're comparing the quality of one school versus another.
In other words, entrance criteria are not necessarily a solid determinant of the quality of education one might receive. If for whatever reason Richland College got a dramatic increase in applicants and was forced to raise its admission standards dramatically, that wouldn't necessarily have any impact whatsover on the quality of the education Richland is offering.
Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?Admission as an Undergrad at ANY top 100 university is a lot harder now than 10 years ago. It's a sheer numbers game. The applicant flow of the last few years is a boom to ALL schools.
Agree with the comment about Cox though- MUCHtougher to get into Cox relatively than before. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?Maybe our athletic recruits shouldn't list on their application that they are interested in representing the university by playing football. Instead, identify themselves as being interested in majoring in Spanish or music. Maybe we wouldn't have the problems getting them in any more.

Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?
Maybe so, but on top of that we have a lot more this year because of the bowl win. The quality and quantity of applicants has increased.
Re: SMU Admission Difficulty: "Average" ?smu is not a hard to school to get in by any stretch of the imagination. unless you are choosing between smu and community college.
