What about the indoor practice facility?

Postby CalallenStang » Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:38 pm

Since there hasn't been much progress made as far as admissions, I was wondering if we are seeing any progress as far as facilities go. Anyone know the latest info?

Reinebold did mention facilities recently. Perhaps an indication for the future.

I've heard rumors that Westcott could be turned into the indoor practice facility for the football team.

Until we get a new Natatorium, we shouldn't add another facility of any kind, except the new Band Hall.

I understand that Jones, his agent, and attorneys are examining his contract for that exact condition, thus not yet signing.

Thanks, I needed that. BTW, I met June Jones last weekend in Chicago at the Soldier Field event for SMU Alums and Fans in the Windy City. He's ready to Pony Up!

I wish universities like SMU and its supporters would make a decision about where they want their athletic program and individual sports in particular to be. Then based on that wish survey to see if the financial support is there for their wishes to be a reality. Anyone can hire great coaches and maybe get a short-term bump in wins and support but for the long-term a bigger commitment needs to be made. Be realistic. The revenue sports must take a priority if higher goals are to be achieved. Why have champagne wishes when you are only willing to pay for a six-pack of bud light? In other words, be the best you can be at the level you are willing to commit to. If that goal is a bcs conference then go for it. If it is the sun belt then go for it!

I don't mean to be rude, Calallen. We've always gotten along well. But you cannot be serious. All evidence shows the progress in admissions has been nothing short of extraordinary. We have everything we need in that arena to be more than competitive. We are there.

Agreed on the need for the indoor practice facility.

Do you work for the University?

I agree we have made progress but to say everything we need is idiotic...

Lol, no I don't work for SMU.

Stallion is abrasive yet right 99% of the time. Read and respond to this quote from him:

An interesting exercise for those that don't follow recruiting-look at the Commitment List at those 10-12 players who have failed or will fail to qualify in 2009 and 2010 Classes. Then look at the number and caliber of the schools that offered. There are a bunch of really nice athletes that most schools are unwilling to pursue. Those 12 or so(exact number has not definitely been established) have like 2-3 Division 1A offers COLLECTIVELY despite the fact many were 3+ stars-that should tell you something. If there is going to be a fight for unfettered control of admission at the university then let's put all the cards on the table so you have the information to make an informed judgment

And, as he points out elsewhere, we barely lost a fight to get a guy who had spent five years in prison. We've done enough in admissions. Now lets go get an indoor practice facility.

Oh, and we might have our coaching staff inform our recruits a little earlier that there's a good chance they will not make it into school so that we don't get to the point where they've moved all the way to Dallas before getting turned back.

Indoor facility is progressing nicely...

I don't care what stallion posts....not he nor you have been able to answer why the kid from cali, gottschalk had to go through 2 admission process to get in, when he was already accepted to PENN...

How bout the fact that JJ hasn't signed...that there is concern over asst. coaches not wanting to be here...

If you want to just sit back and watch thats fine, but there are bad feeling out there so I don't think you should discount them...

the single biggest concern in this whole process.

And the biggest fish in that pond is one where money isn't now nor will it be what keeps him here or drives him away.

Then you guys know more than I do. All I see is a school who used to have the worst admissions hurdles in the nation who can now get almost anyone in.
