Thad, I just want to say congratulations. This is a serious gig, and judging from your past work, you will not only create an excellent piece of film, you will make us proud.

I've seen a couple of 30 for 30 pieces. I thought the Miami piece was a little to celebratory of the antics and criminality --- basically, "wasn't this fun, too bad we can't have fun like that anymore." But I thought the documentary about the same topic as the film Invictus was very good film making.

I'm looking forward to it.

FYI: Thad never graduated from SMU. Also he has no control over the documentary now that it is w/ ESPN.

It didn't shoot itself, or sell itself to ESPN. Go away.

And he probably shouldn't go to LA on Monday to oversee the editing, either.

Go away, troll.

How many hours short is he? My son went back 5 years later and graduated.

Regarding the name... my opinion is that Pony Excess is good. It is catchly and is more likely to have people want to watch. The word is excess, and that is not bad compared to the circumstances.

The original title "Article 19" seems to blame the regulation and not the actions of the institution.

While we can complain about unequal enforcement, it is not the fault of the regulation that we were penalized.

So I am looking forward to this film and trust Thad that it will, while covering the facts, cast a good light on the institution and its future.

Not that I am comparing myself to Spielberg, but I claim to be on Spielberg Plan... he didn't graduate until 2001, and he did it by turning in his films - he got history credits for Amistad and Schindler's list. (Getting any credit for Amistad is kind of funny to me.) Anyway, I'm not worried about it, I'll get a degree someday. Maybe I'll go back and take a few classes too, If I did go back to campus I'd almost rather study history or anthropology or literature... Obviously my lack of a film degree hasn't hurt me.

On editing, Bristol has a lot of input - they are putting their name on it - but no one from Bristol/ESPN is or will be in LA. (And, indeed, it's nice to have some hatorade.)

That is not fair. Amistad is very watchable. You should wonder what happened when Spielberg turned in Hook. Did they place him on probabtion?

Thad: Perhaps you could emulate me as a director. Mark Rydell (note the extra L, but most people spell mine with 2 Ls anyway) has done some good films and gotten some Academy Award nominations. Most notably On Golden Pond. He is not Spielberg but you could tell the L.A. folks that you have hung out with me at football games and they might be somewhat impressed if the check no further.

yeah what's wrong with Amistad-although it ran a little long.

Which was one of the best films ever made for TV-maybe not as well received as True Blood which appeals to the lowest common denominator and has vampires, blood and white trash and is a very average film.
