Memphis Paper: SMU No Longer a Laughingstock

Postby max the wonder dog » Mon Aug 02, 2010 7:55 am

" . . . During their long struggle to recover from unprecedented sanctions, the Mustangs were everyone's favorite punch line as they averaged three victories a season for 20 years.

But these days, a new type of favoritism has emerged on the Dallas campus.

Renowned program build-er June Jones took SMU to a bowl game in 2009 for the first time in 25 years in just his second season at the program's helm.

Now with Jones' recruits outnumbering those from the dark years, many people are talking about SMU as a true favorite to win the western division in Conference USA.. . ."

and his Mom! Visited with her in Hawaii. A very nice lady who was very proud (rightly so) of her son. Sad that these kids screw with their lives the way they do.
Long live Inez Perez!

no kidding. after watching Sanders get drafted, you would hope that everyone on the team knows there's a chance to play at the next level if they do what they're supposed to do on the field, and to do that they have to do their job in the classroom. june & co. give these guys an incredible opportunity and know how to get kids to the next level. we could feasibly have 3 guys in the NFL from last year's team.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I would guess late 80s or early 90s. But they had to take pay cuts.

I remember June saying that he thought TW was the best receiver on the team including ES. TW you better get your self straight!

I remember another freshman that showed promise when he played with my son at UCF.
He’s now the highest paid receiver ever in the history of the NFL. It can happen big for a few. He graduated too!
