Unfortunately, this seems too ideal for SMU for it to be plausible. SMU has always been on the outside of such plans, being consistently left behind. While we have improved, we have not yet reached a point where I believe we could be such a powerful player.

Wishful thinking on someone's part, for sure. TCU is in a great position for realignment right now and the Big East is desperately trying to hang on as an AQ conference. It's a real possibility that they would be the ones looking to pull them in.

TCU doesn't travel, small student population, little to zero national following, can't fill their own existing stadium, and would be the farthest reaching outpost in the conference. Yeah. Lets add them.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Surely someone is thinking a few years out if Big 12 explodes. It would be sweet. Plan for where you want to end up when dominos STOP falling. The MWC has appeared to tie its hands to the West-with no room for Big 12 Leftovers. All these schools except maybe CSU would be intriqued for recruiting purposes or because Southern Miss is vulnerable
Texas Tech Missouri Iowas St Kansas St SMU TCU Colorado St Air Force Houston Southern Miss Tulsa Memphis Baylor(actually 13)
This is the Dream realistic scenario 5 years out

BTW, the Big East isn't in the danger of losing AQ most people think. Its the Big East. Lots of big money, major markets, and big players in their existing conference. I could see them adding Memphis or Central Florida way before they would consider TCU.

they aint crawling back to Cusa no way, and they would be out of their minds to approve Nevada over either Houston or us. TCU is about to bust a move of some kind.

If you're talking about basketball, then I agree. Other than maybe Pitt there is ZERO prestige in that conference when it comes to football.

From the sounds of it TCU wanted to be the only Texas school in the MWC for recruiting reasons. Stupid yeah I know. I don't think Houston or UTEP were as high on the MWC radar as Fresno or Nevada. Those two schools fit the regional makeup of the existing MWC.

CUSA is already DOA. it has no foundation to expand upon. it is what it is. the only thing that can happen to CUSA is a subset of its teams merge with someone else or it gets picked apart piece by piece, with some left with nowhere to go.

What source other than Gary Patterson's vague "stuff I might know that you don't" in his little diatribe to warn BYU of going independent do we have that the Big East is even having conversations with TCU, let alone enough of a dialogue that would lead TCU to go ahead and say F it to the MWC? TCU is far, far, far down the list of possible Big East expansion possibilities. This was an attempt to force BYU's hand into rethinking this whole independent thing.
