Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallTCU's nightmare scenario (and mine which I have stated for years) is to get stuck with a bunch of privates-so get rid of some. They play SMU anyway so they could live with SMU

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallReasonable speculation on Frog Forum by "Aggie Angst"about What Patterson Meant:
Patterson is referring to HOUSTON. All the other posts about Big12, SEC, BIGEAST, etc are nonsense. HOUSTON is getting an invitation to the MWC if BYU stays put in the MWC (and it appears they will). Even if BYU leaves, HOUSTON is still coming in, and SMU may come with them. If BYU stays, the addition of HOUSTON makes 12 members and gives the MWC a championship game, which means the MWC would get to negotiate a (hopefully) lucrative deal for the MWC title game. After HOUSTON leaves Conf-Usa, the directional Louisiana school that is now in the WAC, will take Houston's place in Conf-Doa. That would decrease the WAC by yet another team, and leave just 5 football playing members in the WAC. The WAC will likely dissolve. Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallSo I went to several BYU boards to gauge interest in Independence even after MWC expansion. Strong consensus is that BYU still goes Independent. Does SMU sneak in as several suggest? How do these MWC Divisions grap you:
TCU Houston SMU New Mexico UNLV Nevada Air Force Colorado St Boise Wyoming Fresno San Diego St The bottom 2 teams might be realigned but the North will probably want access to California. Air Force might consider going South to its more fertile recruiting ground but tradition might keep them North Last edited by Stallion on Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:40 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallWouldn't mind going to away games at unlv.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallI love that scenario. Question is would MWC take us over UTEP? UTEP is in the mountain time zone and is in a new market. I think we're behind UTEP in the pecking order.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fallyeah but isn't ESPN and the necessity of keeping TCU happy going to drive the bus. I know I know TCU hates SMU BUT now TCU has add two far west games and an Idaho game and a reasonable divisional alignment seems more appetizing. They'll be playing SMU anyway. Heck I think TCU picks SMU over UTEP. ESPN wants a Texas and California audience just like the Pac 10 was thinking with the Texas schools. Dallas, Ft Worth and Houston would probably be the preference for ESPN

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallWow, let's say the BYU stays. The MWC was formed because AFA, CSU, Wyo., BYU, Utah wanted to play each other every year. Utah is now gone. So, if BYU stays, assume they still want to play those schools plus BSU and Nev. That leaves TCU in a division with UNM, Fresno, UNLV, SDS, and one other team to be added later. That's what I call the red-eyed step-child division. BYU, AFA and Boise every four years. Not the kind of schedule that's going to fill up that new stadium. Let's say BYU leaves. Then you're back in the WAC, again. TCU has voted in teams only to leave before (think WAC and CUSA). And the the new MWC is essentially watered down again with two or three good teams and drek. So, this is the point where Turner and Orsini can earn their salaries. They should go to AFA, TCU, UTEP, UNM, Rice, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, USM, La. Tech and CSU and offer to create the new SWC. Not any less strong than the MWC and stronger from top to bottom. Easier travel, more central time zone games for a better TV contract, and more coverage. You could have a nine team version omitting say LT, CSU and USM if you wanted to do so. This would leave CUSA east in tatters and probably lead to a MAC ripple, but ECU, UCF have destablized the conference with their persistent butt shaking at the BE, so it might be justice in that regard and they get to merge with Troy, Middle Tenn. State, and get easier travel. At worst CUSA stays pretty intact with perhaps one defection and it will survive. If we lose Houston, that would be big, but La. Tech would be a palatable though not great replacement. Or CUSA could make a modest move of offering TCU and either AFA or Temple. At this point we can do something bold, or just enjoy watching the fur fly.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
in that case CUSA leftovers + WAC leftovers unite. Wonder how many show up for the Rice-Idaho game?

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallEastStang
If by some miracle TCU doesn't object to SMU-why would they want to play Rice, Tulane, UTEP, Louisiana Tech or even Tulsa et al. -heck throw in NTSU. That's why they left in the first place. Ain't going to happen. It would be wiser to set up the best conference of 9 teams and wait for the Big 12 collapse. This infatuation with 12 just ain't in the lomg term best interests of TCU or SMU if the programs are not committed to winning at a high level. Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
Issue I am trying to figure out is is what is BYU's interest in Independence if WAC is no longer viable? Can BYU latch on somewhere else for all sports but football? Or would they go crawling back to the MWC? If WAC adds NTSU and a Louisiana school, does BYU still have interest in it for sports otehr than football? This was as good a move that the MWC could have made to try and c0ck-block BYU. Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
BYU could also go to the WCC - Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Pepperdine, etc. That would be a decent BBall conference and still makes sense geographically.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
I just was about to post the WCC. That may not be a bad option for BYU. WCC official has reportedly already contacted BYU.
