It had been going on for months, and the MWC said no thanks, until 48 hours ago when they had to screw the wac to try and keep BYU from going and their other members from leaving.

i picked a bad year to stop sniffing glue. Every hour that goes by now without BYU officially announcing independence, the odds go up that they will stay with concessions from the others. This is just like UT, at the 11th hour all the little guys will fully realize they have to pay whatever it takes to keep BYU happy. That is what will happen. Then they add Houston and not only are we left out, CUSA West is severely weakened. We are on the brink of a sh*t sandwich right now. The question is does a church school like BYU prefer Houston or SMU? My guess is they dont care and leave the choice up to TCU and in the end new market wins out.

could be-but I'm not sure if BYU has had time to make final decision after yesterday's events.

My guess is the TCU has alot to say as to who gets invited to the MWC should they expand. Would the frogs rather have Houston or SMU ?

Try to stay positive-for example-if SMU gets stuck in the SunBelt then at least NTSU will have a new stadium and we won't get splinters in our [deleted]

well yeah that is a nice thought, but more likely you'll be sitting on the pine benches in Rice Stadium as Turner goes down to the bitter end tied to Rice, Tulane and Tulsa.

I thought they were metal at Rice. Feels like concrete though

I hear the University of Juarez wants to start a team and join our new little SWC. Good for international relations and we could tap the growing Mexican tv market.

What does Houston have to gain by joining the MWC, especially if BYU leaves?
Seriously, the travel could kill a program like Houston - both competitively and financially. So they get to play TCU every year? Big deal?
Houston has managed to get Big 12, SEC and Pac-10 teams to play them in football every year, and not just the dregs of those conferences. So they wouldn't get a schedule or profile bump by going to the MWC.
Television exposure? Is it appreciably better in the MWC than C-USA?
I don't get why Houston would leave, other than if it feels the MWC is much more stable than C-USA. I have to think Houston could get better offers if the Big 12 tanks. Better yet, Houston should be lobbying TCU to come back to C-USA.
I know that's a pipedream. TCU would never admit a mistake and come back to C-USA, and they are dead-set against being in a conference with SMU again. But unless the Big East comes through with a Hail Mary offer, TCU has to think about it. They ONLY benefit to playing in the MWC was the opportunity to play in a BCS game and be in an AQ conference. They've got a solid reputation now and could achieve their BCS goals just as easily from C-USA. And save a ton on travel.

I think at this point the best thing for us and C-USA is for BYU to go indy. That would leave the MWC at 10 teams (for the time being). I would think they'd be less likely to expand from 10 than if BYU stays and they end up at 11.
At this point, I just don't want C-USA to get caught up in this stuff. Let the MWC and WAC fight to the death.

I hated TCU leaving too, but how can you say they made a mistake, they are ranked in the top 8 right now? Yes you could argue that they could have done it in CUSA, but the fact is they did it in the MWC. I wish our admin would start making some of the same mistakes TCU is.
