Joining the MWC also means walking away from any relationship with ESPN and hooking our wagon to CBSC and Comcast. I still think BYU is out the door, but to keep them, the MWC will have to invite USU. If that happens, TCU will be livid unless two concessions are made to them. (1) That they are in a division with BYU and/or AFA for attendance reasons. (2) That they not be shown on the BYU tv network (I think the Church of Christ folks would have a problem with that one). With the pie shrinking, they're not going to take losing BYU and AFA from their schedule 2 out of four years. If that is not agreed to then they'll bolt.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Where would TCU realistically go?

It sucks to be a TCU football fan. All we do is win and we have to deal with this conference realignment BS. BYU is leaving the conference because their revenue isn't big enough - we beat them by a combined 70 to 14 over the last two years.

Now the MWC wants to add USU because BYU feels guilty about ruining the wac. well F U Byu. Adios. There's the door - use it.

If BYU bolts, TCU should push the MWC to invite Houston & SMU. If the MWC doesn't do this, or if SMU & Houston want to stay in C-USA - TCU should go to C-USA if they don't have a better option.

Concise and to the point. I wish we could say we understand your pain, but ours has been much different as we have wandered in the desert for 20 years. I suggests our interests should be aligned in the next moves. TCU earned the right to a deal maker, but BYU deserves no less consideration, since they pack a big stadium, travel well and have been competitive for more years than TCU and SMU.

So, as Rodney King once said, 'can't we all get all?" TCU, BYU, BSU and SMU/Houston, for that matters, are not going to be giving the secret handshake by our friend$ at the BCS. Create the strongest non-BCS conference/alliance and demand a seat with an automatic bid, which becomes easier for BCS to concede with a 5th Bowl added, i.e. Cotton.

The one wild card is a remote, but possible rejection by Pac10 of new members UT and CO. If that occurs, Big XII takes both and our combined interests remain as they are now.

WCJ - there is someone on the Houston Scout site saying that the invite to USU is due to the requirement from the Mtn. Network that a school in Utah must be in the MWC.

If true, that would explain why USU is getting the attention right now and why SMU is barely even being mentioned as an option.

I have seen this stated (or alluded to) quite a few times on message boards for several teams. I don't think it's the most likely situation, but I'd hold off on ridiculing it too much right now.

If it doesn't happen, feel free to restate how ridiculous it was at every opportunity like the Todd Dodge deal...it's hilarious and never gets old.

please, stop with this "Utah and CU could be rejected" business. The story is BS. Some tired old former UCLA chancellor who thinks it's 1977 again is on an idiotic email campaign, and found a tired old San Fran sportswriter who bought his claims. And now this Oklahoma reporter picked it up without checking any facts. That deal is done. Both schools made announcements along with the Pac 10 commissioner. Nobody does that while still awaiting approval.

Nevada President says that they feel no obligation to pay the $5m penalty that they verbally agreed to.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... -penalty/1

The comment that they don't want to stand in the way of Louisana Tech joning the CUSA is so disingenuous as to be laughable. Talk about rationalization.

odd that the La Tech comment came from Benson.

Minus La Tech, the WAC has five members. Send Hawaii independent and Utah State to the MWC...and what's left? NM State, Idaho, and..? Who am I forgetting?

I think he was talking PRE wac break-up. Saying we made everyone but LaTech adhere to the 5 mil buyout clause because with this clause, if LaTech ever had the chance to be in a more desirable conf location they could leave, it would prolly benefit the remaining 8 members.

by the way, the article by the Oklahoma reporter now has an editor's note saying that CU and Utah to the Pac 10 IS final. I can't believe she wrote that garbage, and that it got by an editor, with no confirmation.

Same writer and editor that ran with the story that got Gundy all fired up, isn't it?

To be fair though, reporting on the actions of a crazy former chancellor is probably fair game on a slow news day. Trying to make it sound like their may actually be a chance the deal would fall through is more of the problem.
