Re: We may be headed to the MWC nowSounds weird, but I'd ask TCU, AFA, Army and Navy to join CUSA. Keep the west as is with TCU and AFA, or split private + academies into one division and the public schools in another division. With the prospect of playing mostly private schools Army and Navy might be more willing to look at such a deal and then the Commander in Chief trophy series is a conference series and two bowl tie ins follow the service academies. That's worth talking about. AFA, Army, Navy travel hugely well and bring TV $$$$ to the table.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: We may be headed to the MWC nowTheir TV deal was not great when there were 9 teams. If they expand it would be split 12 ways with no Utah market. The Reno and Fresno markets added very little. If renegotiated I doubt it will be worth much more, if any.
I believe the MWC averaged less than 7,000 more fans per game last year than CUSA. They just lost BYU and Utah, the schools with the highest attendance (BYU being far and away the leader). They add Boise and 32,000 fans per game, Nevada with 17,500 per game, and Fresno with 33,000. I haven't run the numbers but I'd guess that the average attendance would now be very close between the 2 conferences. The football is better, no doubt. As long as TCU and Boise stay strong. As far as I can tell, the only reason for TCU to stay in the MWC as constituted today is to play Boise. Last edited by Pweesey on Tue Aug 31, 2010 6:34 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC nowGoing to the MWC at this point would be like rejoining the WAC and that was not a great experience the first time. I'm not so sure TCU will not try to find a spot somewhere else soon. They weren't too thrilled with the WAC either. MWC isn't too stable right now and neither is the Big 12-2. Anything we do right now including staying where we are is a big crap-shoot. Hope the boys in charge know what they are doing.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Interesting idea, but doesn't get us any closer to an AQ division. However, it would make for some fun games and might make for some good TV contracts and dollars. SMU's first president, Robert S. Re: We may be headed to the MWC nowThe MWC is less than zero!
They shot their wad with Fresno State and Nevada and now have a big hole in their "alleged" conference where the state of Utah used to be. SMU needs to stay as far away from that train wreck as physically possible. TCU has to be sorely disappointed as any chance of AQ status just went "poof"! SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

Re: We may be headed to the MWC now
Agreed- SMU needs to keep looking East.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?east, i was saying something similar a few weeks ago about navy, army. the thing about us saying no to the MWC if asked is we can't say no if Houston goes because if we say no, then Utep goes and CUSA West is decimated. Just us and our Rice and Tulane buds that we can have debate contests with in front of 200 spectators. This is about survival, not preferences.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now
Agree. Just wonder how long until Texas says they are going Independent and more dominoes fall creating opportunities. Last edited by SMU89 on Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?
Because Tulsa isn't in the West.

I hear you have been playing some golf lately - Thad ratted you out . You also said shot their wad and big hole in the same sentence http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/blog/devil_ball_golf/post/Golfer-s-swing-sparks-25-acre-California-blaze?urn=golf-266447
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?The only thing that makes since to me at this time would be a playoff between CUSA/MWC for a BCS bid. Beyond that a conference change for us now to another non BCS conference in turmoil makes zero since for us or UH. We need to holdout for stability in the future.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?
if a bcs bid was possible at all for a MWC-CUSA alliance, why would Byu have left? they wouldn't have. its total wishful thinking and wont happen without a hell of a legal fund and lawsuit.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?BYU left the MWC to match Utah's exit from the conference. BYU and Utah are traditional, historical rivals--think UT- TAM. You could almost see this coming when the "Utes" made their announcement about their exit to the Pac-10.
Re: We may be headed to the MWC now?yeah, i understand the utah-byu dynamic full well but it remains that if bcs access for MWC-CUSA alliance had any legs, byu would have stayed for that.
