They (Athletic Dept.) would not think of expanding until we were continually selling out/getting close.

Or unless it's a stipulation for conference hopping.

It is funny that we get so many good articles about SMU from out of town papers. JJ puts us on a national stage.

Based upon this, I would have to say Orsini is one lucky guy to have JJ virtually fall into his lap. All he had to do was keep it quiet.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

June Jones has been nothing short of an outright blessing for us.

Numbers are thrown around about expanding the stadium; however, the big problem continues to be parking. Hope they are planning on some parking garages hidden over by North Central.

If they expand the stadium, expect more parking to be built, probably near Expressway Tower (across Central)

Give ED credit. ED was not only great, but he made lifetime connections. ED isn't the extrovert that we all know will make it regardless of what happens. ED was at the end of his career when he made a bond with JJ. And decades later, SMU benefitted from ED's bond with JJ and that connection. Many have been upset with the great ones that have 'not' helped the program. It wasn't that they didn't help, It was they didn't have the right tools for the particular situation. In this case ED did his alma mater wonders by having the connections at the right time and in the right place. And give credit to Orsini and Turner for having the good sense to act like idiots during this period.

But the "next coach" thread was really fun.

Orsini has shown time and time again that being quiet is not too difficult for him.

Right. He just kept quiet and the contract, money, and sign-off from university officials, amongst other things, all just happened. They probably woke him up when they called him to tell him about the press conference.

Most hirings come via someone who knows someone - sometimes in the form of a recruiter and their contacts. Doesn't make it easy or done.

Totally unfair comments. Give credit when credit is due.

He is, he's also acknowledging the other work that was originally not credited. There was a whole lot more than just sitting there mum.

Before we get all goo-goo eyed over this, wonder what the Hawaii players think of this revelation?
Not blaming JJ. It's business. But let's not fool ourselves. When an opportunity comes along to "rebuild" a Notre Dame or Washington at maybe $3-4 mil per, we may be in the same boat as the 'Bows.

Just sayin'.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but in this case a premo coach comes to you on his own and wants the job. Sure you have to do the other stuff, but convincing the premo coach to come to this "coach's graveyard" as some have called it was not one of those chores...JJ fell in his lap. Get it? I would call that lucky.

Jones finished his contractual commitment to Hawaii. I expect the same at SMU. With that I will be content.
