Well it was going pretty well for several years until the NCAA caught wind.

Amazingly well. Two decades of success. You should be jealous.

I will be wearing my Craig James jersey to the game.

a) The game is NOT sold out. Not even close.
b) I thought all the Tech fans were boycotting b/c of the dismissal of the pirate.

So Tech Lawyers are concerned about liability. When are lawyers not concerned about liability? That is pretty much their job is it not? Every school administration would like their fans to be more respectful and not cause them any liability headaches.

I mean some people think booing is distasteful. That is basically what the sportsmanship campaign is about... No booing. The video they showed was basically that. You don't boo anywhere else so don't do it at the games was the message with clips of people at day jobs getting randomly booed. They fail to mention booing started at entertainment and sporting events back in ancient times. The admin and conference told Tech students to knock off the tortilla throwing which was pretty harmless.

Yes some of student section sings the school song with alternative lyrics. But it's not anything you wouldn't hear other places. It's football you're going to hear some colorful language. Many student sections do similar things...

Wisconsin Football Chant: Eat Sh*t!, F*** You!
Maryland Football Chant: Hey! You Suck!
Kansas Jayhawks Football Chant: RIP HIS F******* HEAD OFF!
Texas Fight with alt lyrics: Give 'em hell, give 'em hell! Make 'em eat sh*t!"
*Clips on youtube. I could keep listing these things for a while.

I'm willing to put money all these schools administrations would like the schools not to chant any of those things. I bet they have had committee meetings on ways to get them to stop and etc.

Tech fans take pride in making The Jones a tough place to play. They don't want the opposing team to like playing there or feel comfortable. Some of them take that same mentality to other teams fans especially when alcohol is involved or when opposing fans antagonize them. But that happens other places as well. If you go to a Tech game looking for trouble you will find it. That is true for any place though.

Also please don't bring up the A&M band having to be escorted away from the stadium as proof of anything. A&M's band plays over our school song at the end of the game pretty much every time they come to Lubbock. If they win or lose... they think it's time for Yell Practice when the Tech band is playing the Matador song. Being that it's our stadium and not their stadium this pisses some fans off.

a) As of 9/2 there was 5,000 tickets left. Now with some late ticket says in the past two days and a good walk-up it will be a sellout. It will also set a record for attendance at Jones Stadium with the new seats they have added since last season.

b)Texas Tech sets Preseason record for season ticket sales per DMN in a July article. They've sold even more since then.

They play hard. Leach was a at best unsportsman like. TTU fans were not always the way they are portrayed now. One wonders if the leadership skills of Leach rubbed off on the fans as well.

good point; I've got a lot of respect for Tubberville and look forward to a game between 2 of the more aggressive coaches in the college game. Could be a contest to see who can hold out longest before they have to punt the ball away...because neither one of these guys likes to do that.

You SMU fans are funny. First of all, it is obvious few if any of you trashing Tech fans in Lubbock ever attended a game in Lubbock. Most of your comments are second hand and the ones who say they've been there say something in their comment that doesn't quite fit the reality of games at Jones or Jones itself and opens room for doubt they were actually there.

I have been to games at Tech many times and have seen that the behavior there

is beyond hostile, and we wer'e just yelling for our team, not talking trash.

and yeah it goes on everywhere, but you guys have a reputation for a reason.

I have personally witnessed the following two events:

The Tech student body booing during SMU's alma mater

vs.

The Navy midshipmen standing at attention during the playing of the SMU alma mater.

It's called CLASS and your school has none.

I have personally witnessed a 20-something tech fan get into a physical altercation with an over-fifty man in the visiting fan section.

I have also personally witnessed a 20-something tech fan call a 6-8 year old girl a CNTSU (C*UNT).

I just think it is sad that the only justification they have is listing other schools that act that way also.

My experience with Tech fans prior to the Leach era was that they were good natured and friendly competitors. They had some great gentlemen coaching those teams in those days. I think the whole "pirate" nonsense attracted a lot of marginal characters to the Tech bandwagon and gave license to the baser instincts of some within the student body to act boorishly. I agree with those who say Tuberville is a class act, and I hope that he sets the tone for the Tech fans.
