I know we all are excited about the new SMU season starting Sunday. I am too.
I thought I would put my thoughts on here regarding some things to watch to get a feel for the 2010 Mustangs. As you know, I am always watching the game within the game.
So as you are watching the plays, watch these things:
1) Does Padron look improved over last season? (i.e. do his drops look smooth? is he keeping the ball in a safe place as he finds his WRs? Is his release quick and accurate? Is he making the right reads?)
2) Is the Offensive line sustaining blocks? Are they forming a pocket for Padron? Are they able to reach the 2nd level on running plays?
3) How are the WRs playing? Does Aldrick look like he is stepping up into the playmaker role? Are the roughts crisp and precise? Are they catching the ball with their hands then pulling the ball in tight?
4) The RB situation is totally different. Are the new RBs exploding through the hole? Are they seeing the right lanes and getting to them? Are they securing the ball in traffic?
5) Is the DLine getting penetration? Are they able to hold their ground on Tech running plays? Are they able to keep the Tech OLine off our LBs?
6) Are our LBs able to cover the Tech RBs in the pattern? Are the LBs able to get in the holes and wrap up?
7) How are our CBs playing? Are they able to stay tight in bump and run? Are they able to anticipate the throws and knock the balls away? Are they able to catch up and tackle the Tech WRs after the catch?
There are alot more matchups I'll be watching tomorrow to get a better feel for what kind of team we will have in 2010.
But just remember... There is a good chance that Tech beats us tomorrow. I would love an upset too, but we are pretty major underdogs. If they do beat us, the team will get a chance to learn alot from the game that will give them experience for the rest of the season. I honestly hope they come out and just do everything they can to beat Tech. We will see tomorrow just what kind of team we have.
