First of all, want to congratulate the Ponies on a well-played game, and just happy that BOTH teams came out of it injury free.
Now, my thoughts:
1) Tech had a couple of chances to put the game out of reach, but either bad coaching calls, good defensive plays, and bad offensive plays didn't allow that to happen.
2) Tech got out played in the trenches, and that's where I thought the game would be won/lost. We just couldn't get a running game going, and the credit goes to the Ponies DL. Tech's OL will just have to get better.
3) The early turnovers by SMU allowed Tech to get an early lead, and without those, we probably lose.
4) I thought Tuberville/Brown would've learned from our lack of QB sneak execution...guess not.
5) I was pleased with Tech's defensive effort, and it seems like we should have a fairly stout defense in the next couple of years.
6) Good job by SMU in blocking 2 FG attempts.
7) I hope SMU goes 11-1. JJ definitely has the team/program going in the right direction.
8) Padron played about like what I thought he would in the first half. I thought the defensive looks Tech gave him would cause him some problems. He adapted quite nicely in the 2nd half.
9) Not too sure Potts should be our starting QB. I still like Sheffield better, especially with the way our OL was a sieve this game.
10) Pony fans should be proud of their team, and Tech still has a lot of work to do, but nothing I really didn't expect. If Tuberville punts, I don't think SMU drives the field to score.
11) I thought SMU would have 2 big plays for scores, but that didn't happen. Their one really big play (KO return) didn't result in a score because of a nice defensive effort by Tech.

A short armed into the wind pass to Robinson that was intercepted and not getting the KO return series into the end zone, and a fumbled punt return were killers. I was impressed with our OL in giving Padron time even if he could not pick up a receiver.
Glad Potts played the whole game if the other QB is mobile. A running QB on occasion would have probably finished off the defense. Tech secondary looked impressive. You cannot judge your run defense by us.
Thanks for being a good addition to the board and good luck here on out.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

Pretty fair analysis - your defensive backfield is very good and caused issues for padron all day - thats why he held onto it too long on several occasions - your front DL however needs work - UT and others will pound you inside. Good luck this season.

I thought our youth in the defensive backfield, and on the DL caused some problems for us. I liked Tech's defense, much better than the Setencich/Ruffin era.
God only knows how many yards we give up with Ruffin's idea of a defense. ECU (coached by Ruffin) gave up alost 600 yds, and 49 pts in Tulsa. I could be wrong, but SMU, imo, is better than Tulsa.
And, yes, Sheffield is MUCH more mobile than Potts, and could've put another wrinkle into Tech's offense...especially with quicker decision making, and could've allowed Tech to run more zone read plays. However, he will also turn the ball over more than Potts, and that's why Tuberville went with Potts.
Sheffield will make more big plays for Tech, but will do the same for the other team.

TTU played well enough to win. No turnovers, solid defense and took advantage of SMU miscues. SMU didn't play well enough to win. 4 turnovers is just about a sure loss for any team. It is a killer for a team that is outmanned and lacks depth.
Both teams played hard. Just TTU executed better and protected the ball. .
