I don't think anyone is content with the loss itself, but the factors that led to it being a lot closer than many of us feared are definitely a source of optimism.

Okay, I'm going to post. You obviously are under 25, maybe even under 20, and haven't been around this program very long. Nobody is "content with a loss." What we are is encouraged - encouraged that we didn't lose 58-10 or by some other blow out score like in years past against TT, and were in this game until the very end. This team is turning a corner. Are we satisfied? No. But we are encouraged that this was a step forward and not just another bad beginning to another down year.

Watching the game, I talked to two SMU Seniors. Great guys. They mentioned how it is great the team is starting to win and implied how tough it was during the losing times.

I provided them a little perspective as to a couple decades vs a couple years. Sort of a blank look - they innocently never thought about it.

I am not satisfied with this loss, but I am very proud of the team for fighting through their early mistakes. I also don't know how the defense could hold up in that heat and almost no rest. I expected Tech to win because they have better talent and depth. I did not know what to expect out of our team. What we learned today is Kyle is still learning and this team has great character, guts, and a will to win. After today I am not worried about how this year is going to go. We are going to be just fine.

Content...I'm not content with this loss by any means. In fact, I found myself very happy with the scoreline over all. Most of the people around the program have seen some pretty terrible loses to Big 12 teams, especially on the road. And with our history with Tech, no matter how much optimism has been around the team this off-season, there was nothing that screamed that we could win this game in all honesty.

This team hurt itself big time in the first half, but never stopped fighting. And came out in the 4th quarter and worked their tails off. A loss is a loss but to be competing with a Big 12 team in the final minutes of a game down by only a touchdown (+2 pointer) shows just how far this program has come along in the short time since June has taken over as the head coach.

It's got a way to go, but the strides have been shown just in that one game.

Exactly. Content and encouraged are entirely different things.

And quite frankly, my opinion is that if our players had experienced some hitting in practice before the game, they might not have been so shell shocked at the start and we probably would have won the game.

You always want to win games but the effort of the players even after so many miscues was impressive. This is a team that can go on the road and get things done with that type of drive.

Yesterday showed that we can play with anybody. Last year we had to really work to beat SHSU. This year, we had to really work to get back into a game with a Big 12-2 team.

Now we did go into the last quarter 18 points down. My guess is TTU went into a defense to slow our progress and burn clock. Their offense appeared to shut it down some as well to prevent turnovers.

In the past a team like TTU that is protecting a fairly safe lead would have continued to score as we would be tired and beat up in the 4th quarter. Not so yesterday.

Not satisfied with a loss but content that we have vastly improved talent.
