Thumbs up to the coaching staff...

Postby JasonB » Sun Sep 05, 2010 10:28 pm

I just wanted to give our coaching staff a thumbs up. We had no idea what to expect coming into the game... and from what I understand, our best guess was that they would run more than in the past and that their D would blitz a lot.

Obviously, neither of those things happened. Tech threw a ton, like usual. And defensively, they sat back with people int he secondary, didn't really blitz, played a ton of man, and just dared Padron to beat them. Padron wasn't expecting it in the first half, and tried to force passes. Once he tucked the ball down a couple of times and took advantage of the space on the field, Tech had to change some things and the passing game opened up a bit.

I thought it was very telling, though, that once we got to see their schemes in the first half, the team as a whole came out and played a lot better in the second, even though it was hot and we have less depth than Tech. That is great game-time adjustment by the coaching staff, and I wanted to show my appreciation.

I also think it is quite impressive that we fought through 4 turnovers and a very ineffective offense for the first half of the game to hang close. That shows a ton of grit and determination by the kids in tough conditions in a tough environment.

Oh, and to that idiot who was bagging on Padron... the kid was basically shotputting the ball as far as he could at the end of the game. Once it got to 3rd and 4th in a billiion, I don't think he could throw the ball 20 yards downfield at that point. We had zero chance of converting those downs with him in the game. I don't know if it was the ribs or the hand, but I don't think he could get the ball far enough down the field at that point. Padron is a stud, and he will be back in form soon.

Get the kids some rest, and lets take our frustrations out on UAB and start the conference schedule the right way.

Go Ponies!
