McDermott certainly got a warm Texas Tech welcome.

1st play of his career: facemasked (not called) and sacked
2nd play of his career: roughed
3rd play of his career: sacked

Nothing like coming in with no warmup on 4th-and-21 for what the announcer dubs nothing less than "a potential program-defining play." No pressure there.

We know how important it is that a back up QB be ready/able to go in and play if needed......remember the UH game last year. I just hope that KP is o.k. and has the first game jitters out of his system. I think they said yesterday was his 12th game to start---counting the 5 in high school!! He is going to do great----he showed he has the ability to come back.

This question is not worth responding to. We have many more games to determine the speed of Kyle's maturity. It may have been humbling for the kid, but we can be sure this quesiton is not JJ's first concern. I watched him counsel Kyle after a few bad plays. His body language and demeanor was one of patience and coaching.

No doubt Padron did not look good. He held the ball a long time often so maybe the receivers were not all doing their job. Perhaps some credit should go to the TT defensive coordinator and their secondary.

Timing was way off because the receivers were getting jammed and re-routed, Kyle panicked a few times and forced some balls into tight coverage. He'll look at lot better the next 2 games against defenses not nearly as athletic as Tech's.
