Collaborative Effort on UAB

I may know less about UAB than just about any conference opponent we've ever played which makes for a very little anticipation. Reasons why UAB might be a competitive game? I'll start:

1. June Jones said so in preseason
2. UAB lead for the entire game blowing a 16 point lead in 3rd Q in loss to Florida Atlantic and had lead until about 2 minutes left when apparently FAU had a 38 yard TD run
3. UAB's QB had 211 yards rushing
4. UAB dominated stats about 425 to 350 in total offense and averaged more than 7 yards per carry
5. SMU pulled out a last second win last year when UAB performance seemed very lackadasical
6. UAB has about 12 JUCOs who should
7. UAB had a pass returned for TD-and had a blocked 28 yard FG blocked at the buzzer that would have won the game(Mark)
8. UAB has the advantage of 9 days of rest and motivation from embarrassing loss v. 6 days of rest and SMU's possible letdown after Tech loss

With the short week and a possibility of a letdown, our guys need to be on point so this isn't a trap game.

Might as well add that it is supposed to rain every friggin' day this week... including Saturday.

Also, to be fair, FAU was one of the worst run defense teams int eh nation last year.

UAB went 5-7 last year with 1 win over a team with a winning record-a home game against Southern Miss.

I've tended to care little about the practice bubble "controversy" on this board, thinking it would be cool to have but not a necessity.

However, the situation today and this week has caused me to do a 180 and understand that we needed this thing yesterday. Coming off a tough loss, going into a short week, unable to practice yesterday due to NCAA rules, and the fact that after the first game there are a lot of things the coaches will want to work on. All of those things and the fact that it will be raining constantly for the next 48 hours and who knows how much after that, limiting or eliminating practice this week, can really hurt us going into Sunday.

I hope the coaches are able to get with an area HIGH SCHOOL and get in their facility.

Why would we not be able to practice? Can they not use Ford for their practices is the practice field condition is the issue? I agree on the need for an indoor facility, but certainly they are not the first team to practice in the rain. This is football.

Seems to me it would be nice to have the option to practice either outside in the elements or indoors, depending on the focus of the particular practice.

Sans lightning, I'm sure They'll practice, but I don't see them getting one quarter done what they would be able to do indoors or on a clear day.

I have heard very little concerning their D/secondary. Could someone enlighten me?

I feel that if Padron is given ample time to run through his progressions, he will find the open man. If that's the case for Saturday's game, then watch out. I have a feeling that KP will want to take his frustration out on the Blazers, and have a field day.

If I learned anything from the game against Tech, it's that we can compete with and possibly win every game on our schedule. Of course, if we have the miscues we had against Tech we can also potentially lose every game on our schedule. I've got a good feeling about our chances v. UAB, but I wish it wasn't raining all week.

FAU had 254 passing yards (14 for 24, 3 TD, 1 INT) and 93 rushing yards (28 attempts, 3.3 ypc). FAU's leading rusher had 16 carries for 103 yards, while FAU lost yardage on reverses, two QB sacks, and when the third-string (and below) RBs came in.

UAB's punter averaged 47.8 yards per punt and FAU averaged -1 yards per return, so it appears UAB is good on special teams.

UAB QB Isabelle was 9/19 for 79 yards passing, 1 TD, 1 INT. He is not much of a threat through the air and FAU won when they went to stacking 8 men in the box.

UAB coach Callaway's future has been actively discussed on the UAB board since UAB blew a big lead against an inferior opponent in FAU.
