I believe the salary for being on the practice squad is $1,000 a week, so I seriously doubt money is a factor.
a little more than that, but agree that it seems to be a relatively nominal amount of cash for the organization. "They can be paid considerably less than active squad players: The minimum salary from 2008 to 2010 is $5,200 per week (2008-2010)[2] for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000. If I recall correctly, they are paid $88,500 for the season.

Just saw that cutter has references and stuff, so you should go with what he says.

I know he was helping take care of his Mom which is admirable but he should have hit the books and enjoying a great Senior season showing off his talents.

In order to hit the books you actually have to go to class first to find out what to read...that would have been helpful.

that would be good news, if it is correct. we'll have to see. I just checked the official giants site listing the practice squad transactions, as well the giants FB page, and Shawnbrey's FB page -- nothing.

yeah, that blog entry is posted around 2 pm Sunday, right around after the story was posted by a nydailynews blog, which was later corrected late Sunday afternoon. so, not certain, but I'm thinking DMN is not accurate here. here are links to official giants transactions page listing practice squad, and giants FB page, and Shawnbrey's FB page -- none of which corroborate the DMN blog. http://www.giants.com/team/Transactions.html(see bottom of page) http://www.facebook.com/pages/East-Ruth ... 6845273454http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shawnbrey ... 1068092639I don't know the real scoop, which is why I'm just relying on the official/direct info sites.

I hope for his sake he got some kind of a signing bonus with his free agent contract. Anyone know the going rate for free agents?

An eighth player – RB Shawnbrey McNeal, formerly of San Diego, was reportedly signed as well, but that news was incorrect. The team still has one opening to fill.

I believe I saw that blog posting, but look at the official giants site (link above) listing 8 practice squad players, including a RB (not Shawnbrey), which was posted after that blog entry. so, it looks to me that all spots are filled. but, I keep checking it to see if they might drop one of those and acquire Shawnbrey. so far, it hasn't happened.

i think undrafted free agents get a few thousand...like 2 or 5 max...for coming to camp. i doubt there's any kind of bonus for making a practice squad until playoffs, etc.
