I thought the WRs deserve a D. They seemed to get little separation and that led to a lousy day for Padron.

I dont think the DBs looked that bad and prolly earned a D+. Crawford was in good position on many of those plays but Leong was able to jump over him and get the ball.

Looks like to me that Davis was trying to hump Cole. I agree with most of the grades except I think Cole deserved higher. I have watched the game twice and I only saw one pass although not on target Cole should have caught. Now AR is a different story. I thought that he would have practice catching the ball since last year. He either has eyesight problems or weak hands because he drops way too many passes. The defense has to cover him, but they do not have to worry about him. He will drop a lot more than he catches. It is such a shame because he has such great speed and potential. Unfortunately he is his own worst enemy.

I disagree with the C- grade of the DL because they basically shut down the tech run. Tuberville bragged a lot before the game about how they were going to run the ball down our throat. That was the best job by an SMU D line stopping the run in a big game since SMU held Arkansas to minus 21 yards in 1997.

I agree; I think Tuberville came out thinking they would dominate the line of scrimmage...only to find out SMU has significantly narrowed the talent gap in the trenches

If we stop (or contain) the run, there is no way UAB can compete with us. Not to mention, their pass defense is turrrible.

On both TDs, Crawford was on his guy like glue. 75% of the time, that's enough of a distraction that the receiver won't make the catch. Unfortunately, on both plays I saw, the ball was laid in there (like it was falling from the sky) perfectly where nobody had a chance at it but the receiver. To have a chance at a breakup, he'll need to be up in the air at that point with his eye on the ball to contest it.

Still and all, that was Crawford's first game at this level and he was thrown into the lion's den. I was impressed with his speed and ability to stick to his receiver. Now, he just needs to take the next step.

Let's not give him a complete pass, I agree he has the athletic ability to stay with good recievers but his "coverage skills" need work

Give TTU credit. Those were Leach's receivers out there for TTU. Leach didn't recruit weak or marginally talented receivers. TTY has good receivers and they took advantage of an experienced QB throwing to an experienced receiver against an inexperienced CB. That is just good coaching and execution by TTU, not all Crawford's fault.

It is good that Crawford got a real education against good receivers and a good QB in a non conference game. Hopefully it will help improve his play against a conference foe like UH.
