Key to victory against UAB

Last week Tech was able to pressure Kyle Padron by rushing only four D lineman, allowing seven
players to fall back into coverage. This made it difficult for our receivers to get open.
I'm hoping our O line will give Padron plenty of time to throw and let SMU send 4-5 receivers against their secondary.

The absolute key is to eliminate turnovers. It is much easier for a D-line to rush a passer with a 14+ point lead.

Eliminate turnovers, and make UAB execute long drives to score. So far, there is concern about UAB's QB's ability to throw (and he may have some crummy receivers). Make UAB score the hard way with long well executed drives. I don't think they can do it consistently.

Next key is to continue the solid O-line play and the very solid front 7 play on defense. UAB’s only offensive weapon is a running QB (same as last year). Limit the QB’s ability to make running plays and UAB losses its offense.

Last, improved execution on offense. Completed passes will put a lot of pressure on a UAB secondary that isn’t the strongest in CUSA. FAU threw for 250+ yards. We should be able to do that in the first half if we execute.

Agree 100%. The line wasn't the issue, they were excellent. Padron got happy feet and scrambled into the pressure. Even on the last play 4th and 20, our backup QB had tons of time to launch.

5 Sacks and getting your QB beat up with bunches of hurries is not excellent-it may be understandable based on the circumstances and opponent but that's grading on the scale. Number 1 key to stopping UAB appears to be QB containment and SMU appears to have the LBs to accomplish that.

I'm no football expert. But it would seem to me that a 3-4 defense with speedy linebackers would match up well against an offense that primarily relies on a running QB.

I don't really think this is a "key" to victory because I think we should be able to win regardless of what he does. I would just really like to see Aldrick Robinson be a big part of the offense this week. I was pretty disappointed in his game against TT. We really needed him to be the player we all know that he is capable of being. Just would like to see him get on track against UAB.

When I re-watched the SMU/Tech game, I was particularly interested in the 2nd half pick that Padron threw. Robinson clearly had a step on the defender. If Padron puts the ball in the right place, Aldrick is gone. Unfortunately, the ball was underthrown and picked off. If that pass was on target though, we wouldn't be talking about Aldrick needing to step up and show more this week.

If Padron puts the ball in the right place, Aldrick is gone. Unfortunately, the ball was underthrown and picked off. You're absolutely right. We probably wouldn't be. That ball was terribly underthrown. Al had his man beat by 3 or 4 yards on that play, and it should have been a TD.

Mentioned this briefly yesterday, but I think it was under thrown due to wind. Kyle has never played in that kind of wind in west texas. The kicker said he could kick 40 yards into the wind and 60 yards with the wind at his back, kyle was throwing in to that wind. All in All, I was pleased with what I saw. The offense will click, and all other parts of the game seemed to be ahead of schedule.

Agree, and surprised no one has mentioned this before, I certainly thought about it.

Keys to victory, untrack the passing game vs. a suspect secondary and stop the run or at least slow it down.
