That looked about right. Guess it beats the 6 or 7k for Halloween against them a few years ago. :!:

Lightning in the area reduced that somewhat about halftime. I was surprised that play didn't get suspended. It probably would've at most HS games. I bailed out of the metal bleachers, and went down to stand on the concrete of the middle cross ring. Didn't want to be a part of of the headline 10,000 fried on 9-11 from stray lightning bolt from 10 miles away.
May the forth be with us.

Pathetic. Home opener, conference game, first game of the new season after our great bowl win. We need more butts in seats, period.

I felt safe as long as the band was holding all those lightening rods.

The crowd was small but it was engaged. The students really increased participation. And as they got into the game, so did the rest of us.

This was not like the crowds we have seen for the last two decades. There was engagement. It sounds corny but it was there.

And I think the students will continue to be engaged (and they can really help feed the players) as we continue to win.

This was an exciting game to witness not because the teams were playing for the national championship, but because for once in a very long time the crowd was into the game.

Yeah, the students really got into the band's old " da da to da woo" dance and cheer :!: I
remember that from when I was in school in the 70s, but I have never seen students, and the
rest of the crowd joining it :!: It was like the students had training in it. Maybe a new tradition
is born :!:

Just me or were there twice as many students there than in the past?

They did that some towards the end of last year, too.

Student participation was EXCELLENT tonight.

Crowd was into it. I guess I prefer a small rowdy crowd over a bigger yet stuffier set. Band was good, students were rowdy. Only witnessed one guy getting booted out by the Dallas Sheriff.

FWIW. My Freshman daughter did stay the entire game and was admonishing those around her to stand and cheer the entire game. I love her enthusiasm but I don't want her to turn into some cult like Aggie on Mockingbird. :o

Pitiful attendance for our program now. We have a great coaching staff and kids that play hard.Alumni have done a good job of putting up money to jump start our program.... I just wish our athletic dept. would TRY to sell tickets.I have tried to encourage them with several recommendations including putting additional ticket booths ON THE BLVD. in 3 locations where THOUSANDS of potential REAL CUSTOMERS are, but they just will not put out the effort to do it and have a real chance to encourage people to attend....We have heard from people here how they have had to wait into the 2nd quarter just to get a ticket with only just our stadium booth open at game time.....pitiful. The ticket office told me today that "people who need to buy a ticket just need to come by their booth at the stadium earlier before they go to the BLVD"..... They just don't understand that these people need to be encouraged to even buy a ticket. They don't have season tickets like me and most of the fans on this web site. These potential customers don't care if they have a ticket or not and don't care if they go to the game or not. They are just at the BLVD. to enjoy themselves, but they could be encouraged to buy. But apparently we are just not interested in trying to encourage the THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE who attend the BLVD to come to the game, but don't....pitiful effort.,,,I just want to help. PONY UP athletic dept.!

Can't blame the students tonight, about as many as I have ever seen and they stayed the whole game and were really loud and into it.

Very poor showing in the SMU premium seats, so many no shows, what an embarrasement for the first game. Then to make things worse, a couple of lightning bolts flashed and a third of the crowd used that as an excuse to leave.

Pathetic that we could not get more for the home opener, a conference game even.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
