Post Game Observations

Postby ponyte » Sat Sep 11, 2010 11:20 pm

First, the student section was rocking! Kids were engaged and making noise. And most stayed for the second half. UAB was at their end of the field and they made more noise then I have heard form the students in decades. And their enthusiasms got the rest of us involved. Folks around me were energized and participating in cheering. A great environment.

UAB's coverages were spot on. They did a great job.

Because of the great coverage, UAB was susceptible to the weak side run play and Zach Line had a field day. We had one scoring drive without a pass completion. They geared up for the pass and we had the studs to run it down their throats.

The D is for real. We turned down a penalty that would make it 2 & 15 just to let our defense stop them on a 3rd and five. Davis had the hit of the night on UAB's #9 over the middle. A few plays latter the kid dropped a sure TD right in his hands at the goal line. He wasn't even looking at the ball. He was looking to see if Davis was going to light him up.

We best thank UAB for being sloppy with the ball. 2 fumbles (last play of first half and a for sure TD) could have changed the game. We could have easily been down 21-14 early in the 3rd.

Padron was one tough cookie. He ran hard and smart and made a TD saving tackle against a very big man.

Thats why you call it the RUN n shoot. You look over the defense, and take what they
give you. 8)
May the forth be with us.

If we've got to grind out a game like that I'll take it every time. Plus, SMU's win (covering the spread of -11) was a part of my winning 4 game parlay. Great game by the O and D (esp. the D)

Passing still looks a little sloppy, but I'm sure they'll get it down soon. The D looks great... I just hope we can shut down Dalton and make the horney toads look a little bit stupid on national TV.

Does anyone know if the majority of those SMU students were freshmen? Just wondering....

Student section was the best — by far — that I've ever seen.

Loud, and actually still there after halftime. WAY TO GO, STUDENTS!

I agree completely. Last night's game should keep a lot of defenses honest. I know most people only think of the passing game with our offense, but the run is crucial. Eventually we are going to see some big pass plays and it will be because of our effective run game.
