Re: 16,612
Come on, does Rice even bring 500 when they play at Ford? Traveling to Denton can't be that big of an attraction to them.
Re: 16,612yeah I got a good laugh out of that too. We need to quit complaining about Dallas. The problem is our own alumni, family and university friends.

Re: 16,612
You got it.
Re: 16,612
Outside of a "home game" against Texas, does Rice even have 5,000 at their games....let alone a game in Denton. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: 16,612There are 5 things we can do to up the attendance and make the casual fan happy.
1. Pull together an all you can eat section. $25 gets you unlimited grilled chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, peanuts, popcorn, and soft drinks. Rangers charge $35 for this. The Roughriders charge $20 for this. 2. Sell tickets to youth groups around town for $5 and use them as fund raisers. They can charge whatever they want for those tickets. 3. Quit doing the lame [deleted] attempts to get me to the concession stands. You want to drive people to the stands offer specials by quarter. $2 popcorn in the 1st, $2 dogs in the 2nd, $2 Nachos in the 3rd, and $3 drinks in the 4th. Your costs on all of those items is negligible. 4. Invite High School Bands to perform at games like UAB. They can make extra noise and bands like Allen with600 kids will bring 600+ parents and fans to the game as well. 5. Set up a Ticket Tent on the BLVD. Sell tickets and have girls working the tailgate tents to sell additional tickets to those who need one or 2. Might actually sell 1000 gen adm tickets per game at $10. Class of '91
Re: 16,612Buying tickets to bring extra people...friends...to the game is a nice idea, but where are they going to sit? If you are a season ticket holder there is no room for your extra people to sit with you and having them spend the whole game apart from you is not particularly fun for them or you. If you go sit with them in an empty area...such as the end zone...then your previous section looks less than full. You could buy extra season tickets to begin with which I have done in the past, but had to give that up as finding those extra friends to come to every game proved to be too much of a challenge. It would be much easier I guess if I didn't have season tickets. I'm just asking the question and not saying it is a bad idea.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: 16,612Finding a few extra seats for visitors is not a real big problem at SMU games.

Re: 16,612
A friend's Mom used to run a minor league baseball team (Portland, ME). They would do everything to sell tickets - just short of accosting people in the streets. The ticket office has it easy. There are hundreds of big companies in Dallas. Walk into the HR Department and have them sell discounted tickets for you. The HR Department just explains to its employees that the discounted tickets are a benefit for employees of "XYZ" Company. It is a win, win situation. We bring in more people and the employees feel like their company is still trying to take care of them during these tough times. Another benefit is that we start creating ties to potential fans in the city who have no affilitation to the University. Benefits to people with no connection to the University: 1) SMU is easy to access from most of the metroplex. 2) It is a "family friendly" event. Make sure the seats are away from the drunken college students (and most people posting on ponyfans.com). 3) Quality Football program on the rise. 4) In these tough economic times this is a very affordable family outing. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: 16,612Not sure when that video was taken but it looks like there are maybe 10K - 12K in the stands. No way half the seats are taken.
Re: 16,612
It's always an optical illusion when you are looking from the home side due to the slope of the stands and the huge number of seats behind the glass in the press boxes. 16.6k is very believable based on what I saw in person. Pathetic yes, but we've seen 12k at a game before to compare it to. "I think Couchem is right."
