Fields and Line

Postby DaStang » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:16 am

I was really happy to see Line get the ball so many times last weekend after having a solid game against Tech. Of course I would be much happier if our passing game was putting up 400 yrds per game, but it is really good to know that we have the run blocking and a back like Line who can get us 5 yrds on nearly every carry. I just hope that Padron and the receiving corps gets their timing down before the TCU game. That being said........

I am thinking that we are in a very good position to have a really solid running attack over the next 3-4 years. With Line only being a SO. and Fields just a FR. we look like we can keep the passing game clicking by having a set of backs that could break a 20+ yrd run on any down. Imagine a SR. Line and a JR. Fields at 6-2 225 who can run under a 4.5 and pass block......Nice.

Basically I agree although I wish that Pope had redshirted and not played this season. He did report coming off a leg injury. Of course if next years committed RB proves out Pope might be scrambling for playing time then also.

Pope and the other RB coming in can redshirt next year.

After watching Fields before he got hurt, this kid is going to be the real deal. He was bouncing off tackles just like the true-frosh at USC, Marcus Lattimore. I can't wait to watch him develop into a premier running back.

Fields is going to be awesome and I must say Pope has that quick burst through the line that is so important. Of course Line is great already and a real surprise with his strength and ability. Maybe if the passing game doesn't workout soon we can change to the wishbone!

really? the QB 5 yards deep and the RB directly behind hom 8-9 yards deep? I didn't notice that although it would probably be effective for Fields. I did see Hawaii in the Pistol several times

If the defense is keying on the back then this can help. With our opponents committed to stopping the pass I am not so sure this makes much difference.

Petrino brought in Nevada's OC to install the pistol at Arkansas. If you recall Nevada had 3 1000yd rusher using it. I think UA is averaging about 50 yds a game rushing even with a plethora of highly rated RBs. The run and shoot should provide ample running space without needing to go to the pistol, in my opinion. These youngsters gave enough to think about as it is.

Fields looks really strong, fast and quick but needs to get the pad level down. He's going to kill himself (and probably a few defenders on the way)...looked really painful when a defender caught him at knee level and he was almost upright
