Update: Sterling Moore's knee

Postby PonyPride » Mon Sep 13, 2010 7:50 pm

Senior SMU cornerback Sterling Moore feared the worst when he felt pain shoot through his left knee during the waning minutes of SMU's 28-7 SMU win Saturday over UAB at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. As he rolled on the field in pain, he ripped of his helmet and threw it. Moments later, after being helped to the bench, he immediately took off his jersey and pads and untaped his wrists. After the Mustangs' victory, he limped from the field with an ice pack on his knee.

But Moore learned Monday that the damage is not as extensive as he feared. Moore was told he had suffered a patella subluxation (a term that covers a number of injuries that involve lateral movement of the kneecap while the knee is bending). He had his knee drained Monday afternoon, and was told that it is unlikely he'll be ready to play Saturday against Washington State, but after that, the news was encouraging.

"The doctor said I'm doubtful for the (WSU) game, but it depends on how much swelling comes back after getting it drained today," Moore said, "but they don't think there's any structural damage."

Moore, who said he still feels some "bearable" pain, said he absolutely wants to play Saturday against Washington State, but said he's OK with the conservative approach that could mean he sits out Saturday, as long it means he returns in time to face TCU the following week.

"TCU," Moore said, "is a 'must-be-ready-for' game."

I don't think anyone would mind him sitting out Wazzu to be ready for TCU.

Who starts in his place?

I was hoping we could red shirt parks so he could fill out a little and adjust to the college game. Is it likely he is used now?

My guess is Bennie Thomas replaces him on Saturday.

it seems like he's getting the most reps currently outside of crawford and moore, so that's probably the best bet.
