Thad, about midway down the page, it shows the ranking. I just recalled that when I first saw it was ranked 46,000+ in DVD's and #46 in the sub-genre "college football."

Nice. I wish I had had your phone number/email address so I could have called you. It would have saved me an hour of searching around amazon. At the end of that hour I figured that that (you're remembering) was the case, as I absolutely couldn't figure out how you had those stats.

Oh and I love the pre-review. Awesome.

Dooby wrote:Thad, what promotion are you personally going to do for this thing?

I'm selling myself on Harry Hines. Make sure to send ponyfanettes my way.

Actually, we did the on camera ESPN interview today, the Dallas Film Society wants to do something, the Morning News profiled me back in December and I'm sure they'll do more, I can't wait for the Bill Simmons podcast... but beyond that, I'm still waiting on the go ahead from the producers to do more. I'm sure we'll do stuff in Jesuit Today and the SMU Alumni Magazine.... but it's all up in the air right now.

I do know that I am going to be interviewed for another documentary out there being made right now on college football. Crazy.

Oh, and I feel the need to post this, and I don't want to discourage anyone from buying the flick.... despite any news in the past to the contrary, this film has always been about the death penalty. Too many folks think I am doing a film about the re-birth.

Here's the thing nobody but us cares about the re-birth. The point of this film is to get people to care. I can tell you that we devote a whole segment of the film to the fallout, the repurcussions, and the re-birth... but if that's all you are interested in, you'll find that in All Grit. No Quit.

The idea of this film is to expose the DP warts and all on all sides and create fans by doing it. I know already some of the stuff I have in there will hack some of you off, because it hacks me off to have it in there.... but it's true, or it's opinions from people who helped bring about the end result.

I don't want you buying the film if you are expecting an "SMU got screwed" piece. While to some extent that is true, we cover that, but we cover everything else. If this were an "SMU got screwed" piece it would only appeal to us SMU fans. Again, the idea is to bring people into the SMU fold, to have people root for SMU.

The whole point of the film is to allow the audience to make conclusions on their own... but that means we have people in their that you won't like and others will say things that you won't like... but I remember a quote on a rival fan board when news of this just came out. I wasn't miffed when I read it, I just laughed. It said "oh you know it's just going to be an 'oh poor us, it's everybody else's fault' documentary."

I'm too smart for that. SMU puts out people who are too smart for that. If I were to do that, we'd all have a big party and love it to pieces, but nobody else would care.

The point is to have joe blow in the middle of nowhere Ohio leave an SMU game on when he stumbles across it... and root for them. And the next year for him to hear that the daughter of his neighbor down the street is considering going to SMU, and the next time he sees her to say, "SMU, huh? That's a good school..."

Bless you for telling the truth. It will be educational for all of us. I think many people, fans and casual observers both will be astounded at the depth of the improprieties that took place.

Thanks for saying... But I know there will be folks not happy with me. Thus, I have to give myself some solace by saying/thinking/knowing that I have to put the full truth out there. I know we have a great film on our hands. However, I do sometimes watch the film with "pony colored glasses" and say, "damn, SMU and some of the fans might be pissed at me."

But, again, we're not going to "win fans and influence people" if I am not 100% honest.

...

(You know, mrydel, I don't know how we can do this, but the fact that you and I are completely on the opposite ends of the political spectrum and yet we can think so alike on this issue and many others... it makes me wonder... I don't know but maybe we should talk honestly about bringing this country together.... because I also know that you, like me, want the best for the ol' U.S. of A.)

Thad, if you were directing a sequel to a bad Uwe Boll film, we would still buy it and support you.

The death penalty was a dark day and we all know that. Most of us are prepared for the fact that your documentary will be honest and fair and won't repeat "Other schools paid players too!" for an hour and a half.

And please don't direct a sequel to an Uwe Boll film. We have suffered enough.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I have had faith from the beginning and still do now, that Thad will do SMU and us proud. I can't wait to see it.

The truth is SMU earned its penalty. We can't hide that fact. The imposition of the DP is much more complex than just we got caught and everybody else was doing it.

Questions for me include was the penalty fair and will the penalty be fairly applied in the future? But I don’t question whether we earned it or not.

Oh, and telling the truth isn’t a political thing, it is a moral and ethical thing. Just a sign that the two of you have very similar moral and ethical principles.

:D And it is morally and ethically imperative that tax cuts be extended.
:D :o
