Galloway asked the right question...WHERE ARE THE FANS ? Everything is going GREAT.... Coaches, team, and recruiting. Yet the fans were not there.....But I will say we do have some great Loyal Fans here who just don't miss a home game. I'm glad we at least have them to hopefully build on in the future....I don't make every home game. I live almost 500 miles away, but try to make as many games as I can home and away. I'm looking forward to watching SMU being a big favorite over a BCS team. Don't miss this game. Go Mustangs !

The new Cowboys stadium is 25 miles from the SMU campus and 20 miles from the TCU campus so I don't know how that is impacting anything.

I remember attending a SMU / TCU game in the early 80's at Texas Stadium. There were no free giveaways and yet the attendance was over 50,000. That was a great night to be a Mustang....too bad circumstances stopped that momentum.

Also remember attending a Rice homecoming game in the early 80's after we had already been good for several years, were ranked in the Top 10 at the time, and yet I doubt there was even 22,000 fans at the game.

Point being SMU will never draw 30,000 fans for most of our conference opponents unless there is some from of marketing or we are in a better conference.

If I was in charge, my home schedule would always include a combination of Baylor, TCU, Tech, NTSU, Arkansas, A&M, Missouri, Kansas, K-State, OK-State, Illinois, and Mississippi. That includes BB as well.

At the top of that list is TCU, Baylor and NTSU. I would play 2 of those teams every year in FB and all 3 in BB. I would be inclined to play TCU and especially NTSU twice a year in BB.

I tend to agree with you on the Cowboys and SMU not going after the same market, but they still take up the majority of attention in Dallas during football season, and the fact still remains that 100,000+ from the Metroplex base their weekends around them.

I am actually believe it would be a great thing for us (and other college football programs in major NFL cities) if the NFL goes on strike. If we can pull it together and be the only game in town, especially with our OOC schedule we have coming up, we could make a dent in the media coverage in DFW.

The problem is for most students(I'm a senior here) is the boulevard is just like a party on any other day and we have to make the game an event worth stopping partying for. The easiest way to do that would be to set up a club similar to what they have with the champions club where you could charge 10 bucks a game to get in and you could buy alcoholic drinks in the stadium. I dont know if were allowed to do this due to ncaa rules, but if the rich alums can go get drinks why cant the students who are 21 or have a good fake id have somewhere similar. Not only would the school make money, but you would keep students who have finished off their flasks by the second quarter and dont want to sober up in 100 degree heat. Whether or not its right or wrong ask any student why they left the game or didnt go at all 75% of the time there answer has to do with not being able to drink in the stadium. Most kids just go to the boulevard to get drunk and dont care about the game, everyone starts to get hungover by halftime and when you add in the fact thats its been close to 100 the last two weeks, no one wants to sit there sweat for 2 hours and be hungover when you leave. Most kids(myself included) leave at halftime to go home take a nap and be ready to go out again. We have to make it so the game is more desirable then a party. As far as the overall dallas community we need to get a better, more well run athletic department. Orsini has done a great job improving things on the fields, but not in the office. If you were to look at most major D1 programs they all have marketing departments staffed by both students and 5 or more marketers. If we want to be a major D1 program thats desirable to one of the big conferences we have to start acting like it, and invest in the future. Take 100,000 a year that we would probably just spend on landscaping anyways and hire three full time marketers, thats the only way to reach out to the Dallas Community, that doesnt know anything about SMU. And dont you think an extra 100,000 a year towards football marketing would do more good as far as recruiting students and athletes then a new fountain or the new plants they put in down in the south quad.

Here's an idea, how about you stop acting like a giant pu$$y.

NEWS FLASH: college students at EVERY OTHER school in the country ALSO view tailgating as a giant party. They are all hammered. They are all sobering up at halftime if they are too stupid to bring in enough booze.

In reality, most students care more about partying than going to the game. Fine. Hard to make people care about what has been historically crap football. But don't make excuses about it because every student in every school across the country is the same. Go see if they are whining about the heat in Austin. How about you overcome your vaginality.

I actually thought it was a good turnout by what I 'll call season ticket holders on the West Side. I thought about half would be a no-show. West side also showed a lot more interest in the game.

All im trying to tell you guys is what the vast majority of the student body feel and a realistic albeit not the best way morally to improve the turnout, I mean we only averaged a little over 2000 students a game last year, clearly that number needs to go up in a big way. I stayed for the whole game today and enjoyed every minute of it, and left after the third quarter against UAB and a most of my friends stayed with me, the perception around the team is changing, but just like every year, come halftime half the student body got up and left. Im just trying to say what could possibly help. Does anyone really think our marketing department is doing a good job marketing the program to the DFW area, and its not their fault its just understaffed and not a priority.
