SMU defensive coordinator comes in not loud, but clear

UNIVERSITY PARK – College football has long featured defensive coordinators who are highly animated and easily agitated.
Joe Kines just retired following 36 years, long after his drill-sergeant voice became a near-inaudible rasp. Erk Russell drew attention at Georgia in the 1970s for headbutting his helmeted pupils, leaving his shaved head bloodied. Texas' Will Muschamp drew blood in a different manner, the enraged removal of his headset tearing his cheek.
SMU's Tom Mason eschews such an image. But he does have a trusty aide who can pop a gasket if necessary.
