I sat in section 124 and there were plenty of WSU fans in attendance. Considering their recent record and distance from SMU, it would be tough to expect them to send more folks.

we will have a good crowd this week...but need to market the rest of the CUSA schedule. Houston is the only game that will draw 20k...time to reach into the Russ Potts bag of tricks

Yes, the stadium looked very empty. The few times they showed our cheerleaders they were just standing around.......they showed the 2 horses but I never saw Peruna....the band sounded great....and the campus shots looked really pretty. When they showed Bob Hope Theater, Mike Leach's comment was that he didnt' know Bob Hope had gone to SMU. Leach wasn't a very exciting voice to listen to, but he loved our defensive guy (have forgotten his name but his first two initials are on his jersey w/his last name and he is from Crockett) and kept bragging about him. Great exposure.

I can't understand it myself. This team plays an exciting brand of football and is certainly on the right track. It seems as though the students would want to be a part of it. As a student, what else are you doing from 2-6pm on a Saturday. Apprently there was something pretty big at 4:30, because half of them cleared out of the 14-14 game to attend it. Frustrating...

that's because June hasn't instilled confidence in the student body like he has with the players. the guys on the field KNOW that the game isn't over until the whistle blows and that they can score and win. the students (and some alums) still haven't bought into that. it will happen over time.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I agree, and I also see the point Jones had in today's DMN about the previous years of anguish. I just jope it happens sooner than later.

what in the world would be happening at 4:30 on a Sat??? UT/Tech wasn't until 7 - b/c we know there are Horn fans that go to smu. Our student body is what - 6 or 7k? -- there should be at least a 1-2,000 there. Junes gets it - it's going to take a while after s ucking for 25 yrs. We are all excited but the general public and average SMU alum hasn't caught on. for all you whiners, there were only about 150 people in the Hall of Champs. I came out in the stands for a lot of the time. the food was decent and the beers were tasty.

Ask for a re-count. Maybe you can get it lowered. Isn't that what you're looking for?

being from texas the heat doesnt bother me much at all. but yesterday on the east side of the stadium...its was uncomfortably hot, the aluminum felt like it was burning my feet though my shoes.

I agree. This would be the easiest solution. The weather would be more manageable and there would be less conflicts with children activities. 7 pm start time would even be better. How much control does SMU have over this compared to the conference/TV stations?

Yeah man, that's it. Making an observation. Appreciate your feedback. Is it your position that my observation is inaccurate , and that there were in fact as many or more students here vs last time , or are you just being an [deleted]? If its the former, great. Your opinion. If the latter, well happy Sunday to you too.

Don't we have only like 5-5k undergrad students at SMU? Your expactation of 4,000 of them attending games may be a bit high...

I think we are actually retaining more students through the entire game. We had half the number this week as we did last week, but for the most part it appeared the ones that were there yesterday stayed for the whole game.
Students attending are not going to help much with total numbers, because the student population is small. But it does help with team support. The players feel it. The players go to the students after the game to sing Varsity. It is nice if there are some there to show support.
Stadium attendance is going to have to come from the Dallas community and that will take time. The students should realize 3 hours without a taste of alcohol is not that big of a sacrifice for your school. You might actually get a job someday where they do not allow you to guzzle beer from 8 to 5.

The $10 tickets being sold at the flag pole was a good idea. I was able to convince 5 people from the law school tailgate tent to walk over and buy tickets and join us for the game. First SMU game for 3 of them. They all enjoyed themselves and promised to come to atleast one more game with me this season.
