I don't think so. We would definitely get a good number of votes but we still have one loss. The question is: How far would TCU drop if they lossed?

Exactly, "Coach Speak"-a victory over TCU would be as big a victory relatively speaking as a victory in the Texas/OU rivalry for recruiting bragging rights. Do you actually buy that Coach speak? Maybe so-June acts like the TCU Game is just another game. But its not-we recruit-(check)-we'd like to be able to recruit against these guys for the better talent in the Metroplex and Texas. If SMU breaks the status quo under these circumstances-its a big deal.

And with all due respect, from the national perspective, if SMU beats TCU, they will say the outcome says more about where TCU is than where SMU is. In other words, SMU will not get the same boost by beating TCU that, say, TCU got by beating OU.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

That was considered the Probation Bowl

What has been missing from SMU v. TCU is two quality teams at the same time.
Check it out-it just has never happened. This year might just be it.

I think another issue was back in the 80's, it seemed we always played TCU very early in the season. I know one year with Wacker, we won at early, TCU went on to go 7-1, with their only loss being to SMU.

I always recall SMU/TCU and SMU/Baylor to be 2 of the most exciting and well-fought games during the 80's....regardless of W/L records.

Healthy and respectable was the result of the TTU game. We could do worse in the TCU game.

Because of the rivalry, I am sure our players will be giving it everything. My guess is Jones will too.

A win is fantastic. Note, if the win is impressive, it will be witnessed on national TV and voters in the polls will have a visual upon which to base their vote. After beating a Pac-10 team and then a top4-5 team, one might crack the top 25.

Short of a win, healthy and respectable is the next best thing to hope for coming out of this game.

Yeah, that's the tough part about being non-AQ. You are relevant and given (grudging) respect by the football establishment for exactly as long as you are absolutely perfect. At the first hint of a slip-up though, the fall for a non-AQ program is fast and furious.

We opened against TCU for about 3 years in the 70s (76,77,78) and played them second game once in the 70s (79) and in 1980. The early game change was due to Houston entering the conference. The conference pattern was failrly stable until the end of the SWC.

Against #4 even a one point win would be impressive. I'm taking JT's advice and have no expectation in regards to us winning...but I hope for a miracle. Rivalry games can be interesting.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I saw them as #4 in one poll and # 5 in the other. Regardless, they are a good team. Impressive means we beat them without flukes or quirky rules interpretations. If we win on a fluke punt muff like the one in the WSU game, I don't think people will consider that an impressive win.

Yeah, the '84 game was the biggest SMU/TCU game in my lifetime. Bigger than this week's game in terms of relative importance since both teams were considered contenders for the SWC title that year. If we were ranked this year, or if we were playing in TCU's conference, this years game, at least going into it, would be really big.

Having said that, should we win this one it would be our biggest win since the 83 CB.

I don't think so. Yes, we get a few votes, but I don't think this propels us into the rankings.
