Read the title of the thread and then read what I wrote. Go ahead... Take your time... There are not too many big words... Start putting the pieces together... I see this is going to take a while so let me help you:
Part A
1) If SMU wins, Gary Patterson is going to take it on the chin from the press.
2) If SMU wins, there is nothing GP will be able to say that will make him or the program look like they are not making excuses or whining.
3) If SMU wins GP's best bet is to let the story pass and worry about next week.
Part B
1) An improved or ranked SMU helps TCU's strength of schedule. Very important if you are, as you claim, inches away from a BCS Title Game
2) Alumni are more willing to put a check in the mail if a rivalry means something. Having SMU as a laughing stock of the FBS doesn't raise alumni $$$s. Put this into context with the above.
3) We will continue to play eachother because both schools want to schedule teams from the old SWC. It is cheap travel, fans will travel, and there is both history and local bragging right.
Going back and forth with you Kev is like trying to have an intelligent conversation with a 3 year old... It forces a person to rethink the benfits of sobriety.
