We will learn a lot about this team on Saturday

Postby smu2004 » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:07 am

As you can see by my post count, I don’t really write a lot of messages on this board; however, I feel compelled to make the following point: WE WILL LEARAN A LOT ABOUT HOW FAR THIS TEAM HAS COME ON SATURDAY.

We spent the entire off season getting pumped up for the TCU game (anything else you may have heard is simply coach speak) and played a hell of a game. The players gave it everything they had and did not leave anything in the tank. 8 days later we are playing in a game that is relatively obscure (not on national tv, not in front of a sellout crowd etc.) against an opponent we SHOULD handle pretty easily. It would be so easy to come out flat on the road and find ourselves in a dogfight...and I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens to be honest. However, if this team has come as far as I believe it has, it will put Rice away with relative ease. That is the mark of a championship squad…bringing it every week and expecting to win…and that is the next level we need to reach if we want to start winning Conference USA titles and get recognized in the national media.

I know some of this stuff seems relatively obvious, but this is the quintessential let down game here and I am really anxious to see how June coaches the boys up and gets them ready to avoid this potential pitfall…we will see on Saturday.

trap game if there ever was one.

in the past we would have lost this game. hopefully the guys can put tcu behind them and get pumped for this one. it's a very important game. can't afford to lose it.

I think the guys realize it's all about winning C-USA now, it's there for the taking. I expect our guys to come out focused and punch Rice right in the mouth.

SMU2004, I could not agree more. This is definitely a key game for SMU. At some point in their development into a top 25 team, SMU must be able to come out and put a convincing victory together against a team which is probably inferior. Having said that, I would take a one point win.

We'll also learn a lot about how far this team will go.

Agreed. Call me cocky, but guys this is a new era and Rice sucks.

Your lips to god's ear. Our history with Rice is not good - especially in Houston. I agree with the OP. We will learn a lot about the character of this team.

I'm expecting a breakout game for the offense. After seeing the suffocating defense of TCU for 4 quarters, Pardon will make quicker decisions to receivers that will actually have some distance between themselves and the DBs this week.

God may be angry with me as he has sent a sworn of bugs to attack us here at the beach house in Quintana .

In regards to common knowledge . Different team, different times. If we lose this game I shave my entire body.

McGuffie looked less than impressive on Saturday, but that was seemed more because Rice didn't get him the ball all that much.

Time to end yet another "haven't done since 198X" stat. Go Mustangs.

I like our chances against McGuffie. Our Run 'd' has been superb.
