I need to take a moment and serve myself a large helping of crow.

The Post article wasn't just speculation. TCU has in fact been speaking w/ the Big East, and while they are "exploring the idea" they are also "months" away from making any kind of move.

Who knows what this would mean for us. No word on that.

If anything, it could enhance the significance and reputation of our rivalry.

we all know Notre Dame is the only example of the football program being separated and we also know why that is, and TCU certainly doesn't have that kind of interest nationally.

If TCU is only invited for football, then I am certain all other sports would be more than welcome in the Missouri Valley Conference. National interest irrelevant.

Exactly. There is no national interest for any sports other than football, basketball, and somewhat baseball. Basketball and baseball can survive in a non-football AQ conference just fine. Nobody cares where swimming or track ends up other than water pony.

SMU, TCU, Houston to Big East to create a Texas branch for recruiting and TV purposes.

thats all I ever said going back months: that TCU would almost certainly at some point soon be CONSIDERED seriously by the Big East. It really is a no brainer to consider them. Maybe it won't happen, but if I was forced to bet one way or the other right now, I would bet even money that within 5 years TCU will join some form of the Big East group. Maybe a straight addition, maybe a splinter of some kind. Thats where the politics will come in. The other AQ leagues are not gonna just sit for long and let an 8 team weak sister Big East collect big money and only split it 8 ways. There will be pressure for them to expand to at least 10, maybe 12.

If Big10 expands again, they will pilf from the Big East 2-3 teams), and the ACC will then want to expand to 16 and/or replenish from the SEC stealing a few from the ACC (mia, fla st, etc).

So, that's a much less stable conference than the MWC...and currently, or in reality the past 3-4 seasons, the MWC is a better FB conference.

Both the WAC and the MWC are ranked higher than the ACC or the Big East. Those rankings shouldn't change much since 80-90% of all non-conf play is over.

Not so fast my friend!!

Explain how my statement above in anyway contradicts your statement below

Right now there's a bigger chance the Big XII expands and if they do so then they will most likely take from the MWC (or at least BYU). So I have to disagree with you there.

Thanks for the acknowledgement. As for other sports, you are forgeting the Equestrian team. Lots of English saddles in Big East.

As for Frogs, the move would be a travel nightmare, but they would do it, while throwing their non-revenue sports under the bus.

Big east would be easy compared to new MWC travel. It would be a 2 timezone, not 3 timezone league. Not to mention tv markets are better. See Dallas Cowboys in NFC EAST.
Their closest rival is 12hrs away now--NMex.

Take out Utah teams add unlv and Fresno and bsu, that's a long way west and nwest.

Look at the map.

The prob w beast (as a bcs) is they are the least likely conference to survive.

Tcu joins only to have big10 grab cuse, rutgers? Then acc and sec pilf (acc backflips after losing to sec)?

Yeah I agree that big12 may look at Tcu if they decide to go 12, but big12 hand may be forced anyway if b10 goes 16. If it blows up, tx could reconsider a p16. ATM to sec, missou to b10, etc

B12 is second least stable bcs conf but might be the first domino.

MWC would only lose Tcu. Who else?

B12 is not going to raid MWC. That's a joke. Why? And byu isn't coming to the b12...dream on. They'd be the Tcu (outlier), but from a small state competing in a strong conference.

Seinfeld bizzarro world scenario.

Don't presume to know the mind of the Big XII. But I will put real money right now that TCU has no real chance, as does any Texas school, as long as there is 4 schools from Texas in the conference. If someone leaves, then yes, TCU has a chance.

IF, and only IF, the Big XII wants to expand to 12 then BYU, I would imagine, would have a real chance for the simple reason that they would bring a real TV market, SLC, and a legitimate national presence as flagship school of the CLS, to the table and that is what the Big XII is big behind on. That, and the fact that BYU has been extremely successull both athleticly, financially, and academically while in the WAC/MWC. Proven winner who averages over 60,000/game and is the largest revenue producing school outside the BCS.

The big question is the other school, and it's not good Schools from Texas, Memphis, maybe Louisville, and then schools from the MWC. Slim pickings.

The issues are going to be very simple:

1) What is the TV contract going to look like without Colorado/Nebraska TV sets? Beebe convinced ABC/ESPN to keep the same contract for 10 teams as they negotiated for 12. When that agreement is up, will the new one look the same?

2) How much is the loss of the championship game going to cost, both financially and athletically? Remember, the Big 10 went to 12 teams for the Championship game b/c they felt they were falling behind other conferences in terms of not necessarily money (Big 10 is the largest revenue producing conference) but exposure. They genuinely felt it was hurting them on the field.

Look, whatever happens to TCU is not necessarily good or bad for us.

If they go to the Big East, fine. That increases their profile, but not dramatically so. They're still in Big 12 country and no one in the Big East is going to bring huge crowds to Amon Carter. If they get in the Big East in basketball, then it might be worth a trip to Daniel Meyer more often, but it's not a perfect situation geographically or culturally.

How about this scenario: TCU joins the Big East. But shortly after, the dominoes fall into place and SMU gets invited to the Big 12. We get the Big 12 bid that TCU has worked for more than a decade to earn.

It's not likely to happen, but who knows what is going to happen? What if TCU gets invited to the Big East, then the Big East decides it wants to expand further into Texas/grab a bigger slice of the D-FW television market? They will look at SMU first and foremost.

If we stay on our current course in football, SMU and TCU together could make a dent in the TV ratings locally. TCU fans would tune in to see what SMU's doing, and vice versa, if we're in the same conference. Individually, I don't think either school captures the area's fancy, but as a competitive rivalry even non-affiliated people take interest in SMU-TCU. We saw that last week at Ford Stadium.

One thing's for sure, Big East membership is not a perfect situation for TCU. If they get an invite, good for them. But it's not bad for us.

But, why would BYU give up their ESPN contract to share tih the littel members of the Big12? They will make more money as IND than a KSU/ISU

Slightly off topic, by why in the hell is the Big 12 just sitting on its hands waiting for the next landscape shift to be started by another conference? Basically, they are just playing the waiting game, content to be UT's pawn. If Beebe has any brains in his head, he should be making moves to strengthen his conference, and other schools in Texas (esp. TCU and UH) should be his first targets given their recent football success.
