More Cornerbacks ?With Sterling Moore graduating this year, we better take about 5 CBs in 2011. SMU is really going to be suspect at CB next year without several talented JUCO recruits to pick from. The freshmen generally are just not ready to play. They need a redshirt season to learn the defense, get stronger, and get used to the speed of Div.1 football.
Re: More Cornerbacks ?Doesnt look like that is going to happen. Im definately concerned about the cornerback spot too.
Im thinking they are going to try and bring Gamble back who is now at TVCC and maybe one more JUCO (who has been mentioned before as a maybe he commited maybe he didnt). Outside of that hopefully the guys who are freshmen this year will be alot better by the time the season roll after a full season in the program and spring ball under their belt. Still very concerning. Maybe with Gamble back and another JUCO you can sneak by. ![]()
Re: More Cornerbacks ?I believe, Derrius is permanently retired.
Re: More Cornerbacks ?I believe his mother recently said he wanted to come back. I kind of wish he would be permanently retired because I do not want him damaged for life, but I do recall word coming out not too long ago that he was a possible returnee.
Hope about it Derrius or Ms. Bell? All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: More Cornerbacks ?Ronnie Ford is a JUCO ... doesn't he play CB?
Re: More Cornerbacks ?With Crawford and Robinson coming back as the veterans next year and Acker and Parks as the Young guns, we'll have 4 CBs with either experience or upside on at the CB position. That's not a lot of room for error. Maybe Hubert or Sparling can come in and light it up. It would be great if Bell was cleared and wanted to come back, but I agree that it's scary when you're dealing with head injuries like that.

Re: More Cornerbacks ?I agree with mrydel and Cadillac.
for all the joy that playing football brings, it is not worth the substantial risk of the consequences of a recurring head injury. I say, if you dodged a bullet once, please don't stand in front of a gun again and hope that it misses again. life is bigger than football.
Re: More Cornerbacks ?Crawford will be the only returning starter next year and the freshmen guys this year have a lot to prove in the future.Freshmen coming in next year ? Well, McCann was the only in coming freshman to play here worth a darn in years. We need more quality depth no question next year.
Re: More Cornerbacks ?Having skilled CBs would be great but like it or not, the top ones are still going to go the AQ conferences. We need to get the best we can but the key is to develop the DL, as we are, to put pressure on the QB. That will make average CBs much better.

Re: More Cornerbacks ?This was a guy I found in the rivals database and thought we might be recruiting because of his dad's playing for the Falcons during June's era but his profile doesnt show any SMU activity. Offers from Rice & ULM thus far.

Re: More Cornerbacks ?I realize a lot of the better high school CBs are going the bcs way, but we have done very well finding talent lately going the JUCO route. Starters Moore and Crawford are both former JUCO CB players who were both found late in their recruiting classes.
Re: More Cornerbacks ?
How about Kevin Garrett and Jonas Rutledge? Garrett was good enough for St. Louis, Kansas City, Houston and Carolina. Rutledge was good enough to play to the TN Titans. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: More Cornerbacks ?I would be shocked if June doesn't convert some of the wide receiver recruits in this class or earlier classes to play DB.
