Recruit From Jr. Day.

Postby ponydawg » Tue Apr 27, 2004 1:01 pm

This is my roommates cousin. Don't know much about him but he told me that he loved his visit to SMU and was very impressed. But ASU has been after him for awhile. All of his family and extended family lives in Houston and they are all very close.....so I would think that might work in our favor. Would be curious to know what some of you recruiting brains know about him. Thanks in advance.

Knust Looking For First Scholarship Offer

Houston (Tex.) Stratford defensive standout John Knust has been
steadily
receiving mail from Arizona State since the conclusion of his sophomore
season. Where do the Sun Devils stand in his recruitment?

"Every since right after my sophomore season [Arizona State's] been
sending me letters and information on going to their camps and stuff,
so
I hear from them a lot, probably more than any other out of state
school," Knust informed us. "I've looked into the school and I'm going
to their camp this summer.

Notably, the Sun Devils are the only out of state program that Knust
currently lists among his top five schools that he is most interested
in
among those showing significant interest. The others are all mid-tier
schools in Texas.

"Last weekend I was up in Dallas at SMU because they invited me to
their
junior day, so SMU, TCU, which also invited me to their junior day,
[Houston], Arizona State and North Texas are probably my main five,"
Knust said.

A year-year starter at defensive end, Knust feels that at 6-2,
220-pounds he likely projects as a linebacker at the college level.

Currently Knust runs the 40-yard in the 4.8 range and he has a
250-pound
max bench, 270-pound power clean and 455-pound squat.

In working to achieve his first scholarship offer, Knust is working
hard
at! getting bigger and faster, and if he improves in these ares this
off-season, things could change dramatically in his recruitment.

"[I'm] Lifting weights five days a week and running with my trainer to
try and drop my 40-time in the 4.7 range," said Knust of his current
regimen. "I feel like I'm pretty strong, but I'd like to just keep
working on my speed and getting bigger and stronger.

With his team working out Monday through Friday in full pads after
school for two or three hours for the next couple weeks, Knust believes
will position his team well for the coming season.

"Last year we went 6-4, you know, we were pretty good. We beat
everybody
in our district," Knust said. "Next year we have a lot of people coming
back, so we should be real strong next year and I'm just looking
forward
to getting to the season."

Despite the fact that Knust grew up in the Houston area and lists four
in-state schools among his current top five along with Arizona State,
he
has no qualms about leaving the region if he feels it's the best fit
for
him.

"Honestly, I just want to play football, so you know whether it's
nearby
or far away, it just doesn't matter," Knust explained.

I think a 4.7 or 4.8 would be a step slow for a div 1 linebacker - recruiting gurus - is this a correct assumption? - - seems like if he gets bigger he is DE material if he qualifies.
