Slightly New Helmets

Postby Stallion » Wed May 05, 2004 2:19 pm

I saw on the CUSA board a link to that Helmet and uniform website that says SMU will add a thin silver outline to the red pony on its helmet next year. I haven't seen that mentioned on this board. Up close it looks kinda odd to have silver rather than a white outline but I guess I'll withhold judgment until the full uniform is unveiled.

The silver outline around the pony matches our silver pants.

Yes, it's true about the silver outline, and it's a terrific addition. Even just a thin outline will offer the contrast to make the Mustang stand out much better on TV or in photographs.

DanFreiburgerForHeisman, you seem to be moderately obsessed with the helmets in your past posts.... what's your take?

I think it will make an already-good uniform look even better.

And so what's the story with the jerseys? Are we going to alternate red & blue?

I always thought the outline around the mustang would be nice.

KU has a white outline around the RED KU on their blue helmet.

Virginia's orange/red swords are lost on their blue helmets.

I agree - an outline (even a small/thin one) should look pretty sweet.

Why is it that (to me, at least), the Ole Miss helmets look clearer (not better -- of course -- just clearer in pictures) than ours did last year? Did their helmets have a white outline/trim in there somewhere?

Yes, it appears words "Ole Miss" are outlined in white. Still not easy to read though.

i guess its another phase we're going thru...i wonder what color they'll be the following year?

i remember when they were introduced last yr they were supposed to be reaching back to mustang lore & tradition with the 'gray' much like the uniforms thru all the 60's & part of the 70's but whatever.

Why don't we just forego the silver-outlined pony & stick an "Ole Miss" on the side of the helmet?

I'm just glad they did something to outline the Mustang. Red and Blue are right next to each other on the light spectrum and without the outline the red horse is harder to see. If they will start winning I wouldn't care if they wore body stockings (well maybe I would). My view is that if Coach Bennett feels that new uniforms will help the team put last year behind them, then so be it.
