Derrick Roberts named to Global Games rosterThis will be a great chance for everyone in Dallas to get a preview of Derrick's game. The global games are June 27 - July 3 at Moody. Byron Eaton is the only junior on the roster, so hopefully Derrick can make a good sales pitch, too.
Derrick is probably the least known of the top 10 Texas seniors and this will give him a chance to showcase his skills on a national stage. I recommend that all Pony hoop fans come out to Moody and see a future Pony star, maybe two (Eaton).
I think SMU must get a spot on the Jr. USA/Texas team for an incoming freshman every year for hosting. Demetric Bennett played last year, before that BHop was named I think although hurt, and Pat Simpson played the year before that. I like the Global Games and hope they are at Moody for a long time.
Since the Global Games are only ten days away, does anyone have a schedule of the games? I've been looking online but I cant find anything.
I'm excited to see some hoops after being let down by the Lakers. This is totally off the subject but I have a funny feeling that Kobe and/or Phil will become Mavs this summer. Cuban will not let the opportunity pass. This and getting rid of Shawn Bradley is the key to success for the Mavs. BTW, Pony fans are going to LOVE Derrick Roberts. Found the link from the Dallas Mavericks Home Page. The official site is globalgamesbasketball.com Here's the schedule.

Re:
I think the Mavs do need to shake things up, but I dont see anybody taking Bradleys contract off their hands yet. I also dont think Finley has much trade value at this point because of what he is paid. And I have no idea whether Nash is coming back. Its hard to commit big money and years to an over 30 point guard. I sure wish the Mavs had gone after Rasheed Wallace last year instead of Zo and Walker. Hes a head case, but all Wallace needed was a good situation. LA, what makes you think Jackson or Kobe or both would come to Dallas. Don't Jackson and Cuban have a running feud going in the media?
Peruna,
Thanks. We should get a group of Pony fans together and catch a USA game. HF, Your right, it is very doubtful that any team is dumb enough to take Bradley’s contract. And it doesn't help that he is terrible. As for Jackson, there is no way he is going back to LA and I think he still has the desire to coach. Dallas presents a great opportunity without all the b.s. of LA. IMO, If the Mavs can keep Dirk, Nash, Daniels, Howard, and Jamison, and change the defensive mindset (actually play some) they are right there. Phil Jackson knows how to get that done. Nellie frustrated me this year with the way he played Eddie and Fortson, especially Fortson. History suggests that he hows to build a very good team, but not a championship team. Don’t think for second that Cuban wouldn’t get rid of Nellie if Jackson agreed to come to Dallas. As soon as Jackson officially leaves LA I would be shocked if Cuban doesn’t have him on the phone that day. As for Kobe, one of my good friends in LA tells me that Dallas is on the small list of the places he wouldn’t mind playing. Just like with Jackson, Cuban would get that done if at all possible. Regardless, should be an interesting offseason.
Well, it's official....Phil is gone and Dr. Jerry has said that Kobe will be staying and Shaq will be shown the door. I wouldn't mind packaging a few guys for the Shaqster. He's always said Dallas is a place he'd like to play and he does have a lot of real estate in Frisco, so that's always a possibility. Don't think it'll happen but we can always dream. Get a guy like that in the middle for this team and imagine the possibilities. BTW, I don't think Cuban will go after Jackson. I can see Jackson taking some time off. So...does this mean he's still hooked up Jeannie? lol
Actually, the new Charlotte team has said publicly that they have some interest in Bradley, and aren't discouraged by his contract. That I can accept - what I can't accept is that they wouldn't be discouraged by his game.
Phil is heading for a year (at least) of meditation in Montana or someplace. Kobe might leave L.A., but it won't be to come to Dallas. Early rumors have him staying with the Lakers or heading to the Clippers or Knicks. How about a sign-and-trade to ship him to his hometown Sixers in a deal that also includes Iverson? Would add a little sizzle to an otherwise-excruciating offseason.
First off, there's no way he's leaving LA and that's simply because no one else will offer him a Max contract. Also, he would not return to his "hometown" because he is not thought of too fondly in Philly. Besides, why trade one narcissistic, ballhogging headache for another? Whatever team signs Kobe will have a chemistry killer. I wish bad karma on any team that signs him.
The player that the Bobcats might be interested in is Walker, who is actually on the expansionllist. They are looking to pick him up and possibly ship him to LA, as part of a Shaq deal. I don't know that Bradley fits anywhere since he's not on the expansion roster list. I believe the 4 players are Walker,Fortson,Abdul-Wahad and Delk. If they were interested in him, it would have to be as part of a trade. I suppose anything is possible. I wouldn't mind getting rid of him if it creates cap space but I don't see it happening. The one bonus to Walker is that he's in the last year of a contract, so that means any team that takes him on will have about 13 mil in cap room at the end of the season. However, he could be some good trade bait if we could keep him. He'd help balance out some of Shaq's salary.
Re:
The only reasons would be the thinking that (A) a "change of scenery" might allow one or both players to grow up a little and how to play as part of a team, and (B) so that each team could sell to its fans -- and corporate sponsors -- the idea that it had gotten rid of its primary headache, and therefore brighter days are ahead, please spend your money with us, etc., etc. I agree - I doubt either Bryant or Iverson would thrive should they switch cities/teams. Personally, I'd like to see Bryant disappear on some invisible team like Washington or Atlanta. Won't happen, but I sure wouldn't miss him if we didn't have to see him on SportsCenter every night.
Can you believe this! The Daddy might be the Laker that becomes a Mav!!
This would be the biggest and most important free agent pickup in Dallas sports history. I NEVER thought the Lakers would be stupid enough to trade the most dominating big man of my lifetime, maybe ever. Rumors are that LA is planning to keep Kobe, trade Shaq, and make a run at Yao in two years......whatever! Cuban better do everything in his power to get Shaq to Dallas. Even if that means trading Dirk. This is fun stuff. Dream with me for a second.......Shaq in a Mavs uniform...............
What's even more amazing is a poll on the DMN website that show's that people are 2:1 in favor of keeping Dirk rather than trading him for Shaq. and most of the arguments have nothing to do with the package of players (dirk included) that we would have to parth with....these people wouldn't even trade Dirk for Shaq STRAIGHT UP.
I do not know what basketball these people have been watching recently...
I would support the trade.
However, if Shaq shows up fat, lazy and out of shape, or if he's injured, or if he decides that Dallas really is too "small-town" for him (i.e. he misses the entertainment industry that coughed up his awful albums and movies) and subsequently retires before bringing a title here, how will Mav fans feel about watching Dirk put up 25-35 a night in Lakerland for the next 10 years?
