The horses don't tick me off that much. I can live with them.

What I don't like is the way that a majority of the students and alumni did not want them, but they were rammed down our throats anyway. The student vote should have ended it, once it was seen they were not wanted, they should never be let on the field again.

This whole stupid saga is a time waster and a real shame. Just get rid of them already, it will make a lot of dedicated alumni and students happy, besides the only real reason anyone supported the horses was just to yank the chains of the traditionalists.

June Jones gets 2 million a year to coach the football team, he doesn't need to worry about the equine ratio of the mascots.

Peruna is an Icon of SMU. It’s unfortunate that the football players and head coach don’t like him. This particular one did represent a lot of losing.

New Peruna’s may out live JJ. I could be wrong …

Oh no...allowing the horses to remain will erode the ability of the student body to get anything from the big, bad administration. This is the first step in a plot to silence the senate and the student body forever. This might work, if the senate actually conveyed anything the vast majority of the student body actually wanted.

Edit:
This is a response to the over-the-top assertions bu the senators and student body president in the article, not to any posts in this thread.

Heh, definitely not a fan of Houston's gay urban cowboy/goatropers that wear them coats and run on the field with the houston flags, Would rather have liberty and justice than that.

I am a SMU Mustang fan and I think Peruna is a cute little horse. On the other hand I really dislike those two poor casterated plugs. Also a Mustang with a rider indicates a horse with it's "spirit broke" to ride.

Now a "Mustang", as I perceive, has a big pair and would require at least two linebackers to restrain it when it rears up on the 50 yard line.... Now that would be a real Mustang to be proud of.. and I guess if the Mustang could get along with Peruna.. that would be cool too.

What's your take?

I’m watching this saga unravel and I see the following
• Less resistance from those entrenched in the tradition..
• The corporate don’t worry nothing is going to change already played successfully.
• The will of June Jones and the most winning football team to have taken the field in 20 years.
• The student senate duped into believing their vote really counts (a good lesson to learn early in life I suppose)

I think that's why Torres is bringing it up again. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe he was one of the people that the school cited as being in agreement with how to use the Geldings when they made the annoucement that the geldings would be on the field. If the school has violated the agreement (which the Daily Campus seems to indicate has happened), it would be the second time that the school has refused to listen to the will of the students on this issue.

The school ignoring its students must stop.

Ehmke's concern - that the student senate can't really pass anything more direct - is also valid. What can the students do if the school refuses to listen?

I actually like the mustangs. I think their kind of cool and I don't have a problem with them playing a role. But the bottom line is that Peruna is SMU's mascot. . .period. If I'm forced to choose between Peruna and the Mustangs, I will NEVER betray that little horse. Hopefully we won't have to choose. June Jones has a strong will and a history of re-branding programs to his liking (see the team formally known as the Rainbow Warriors). But June won't be here forever. Peruna will.
