Check this Coach's Resume

Post by Houston Pony »

What would you guys think of hiring a guy with the following credentials:

-Standout collegian at a D-I powerhouse
-3-Time Pro Bowler in the NFL, with 2 Super Bowl Rings
-2 years as a defensive coordinator at a D-I school, with appearances in the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl
-7 years as a defensive coordinator with an NFL team that went to 2 Super Bowls during his tenure
-A few years as a radio analyst for an NFL team
-Connections out the wazoo in the Metroplex
-An eagerness to lead SMU as a coach, with innovative ideas as a recruiter, coach and motivator

I think it sounds like a slam dunk. What do you guys think?

I think it sounds great! But who is this guy you're talking about?

Correct-a-mundo. Charlie Waters it is. I'm telling you, the guy will be a great recruiter AND be able to call a good game. Think of all the good ole boy hike school coaches he'll impress. They'd get a chance to talkchalk with an honest-to-goodness Cowboys hero.
And he turned around an Oregon team back in the mid-1990's, and took them to the Rose bowl. The Gang-Green defense I believe is what they called it.

He turned the Oregon program around. The HC had nothing to do with it.

Will players remember Charlie Waters? Sure, their parents will. But when I talked to Houston Pony a little while ago, I mentioned that Charlie Waters might be about the same in recruits' minds as, say, Night Train Lane. We all know he was a great player, but we're not too familiar beyond that. Waters was a great player, but personally I'd like to see someone with head coaching experience, too. Give me Doug Williams.
