Was this a recent addition? I only know about Coach Burns (Cincinnati), Coach Vinklarek (one of the directional Tennessee schools) and Coach Adami.
Can you give us any insight? What position is he supposed to coach?
Re:
Miami would actually be the Big East. Although Coach Anderson has spent most of his life in the southeastern states, the SEC is one of the few places that he hasnt actually coached yet. He played at McNeese, and has had assistant coaching stints at Tulane, Univ. of New Orleans, UT-Arlington, and Paris Junior College, to name a few. So, he should be very familiar with the Dallas area, East Texas, and Louisiana. In any event, if PonyNOLE heard this from Coach Bennet, I dont think he was talking about Coach Anderson. That wouldnt make sense, for the football coach to get excited over a basketball assistant. You are all sheep.
he told me that the assistant came from Ole' Miss and is going to help manage the LB's

My guess would be Chuck Driesbach, who has that responsibility over at Ole Miss. He's got ties to the area since he was at TCU several years ago. Just a guess.
The new Coach is apparently Joe Sawyer. Defensive line coach. There is a press release at the Athletic Department website. He coached recently in HS at Duncanville and Knoxville. Was apparently an assistant at Grambling at one point. Sounds enthusiastic and looks like he might have been hired to bolster recruiting.
Joe Sawyer should be a familiar name to SMU fans. He's been around here as a Grad Asst the past couple of years. Now he will get paid to work with our DTs. Those young DTs are going to be a key to SMU's defense.
Isn't he the guy who did the weekly "G.A. Joe" column on the Maniacs board, last year, before its untimely demise? I enjoyed those writeups. Guy had a pretty good sense of humor.
Coach Fello took a leave of absence. Hopefully he will be back with the program in some capacity in the near future. He is a man of great character and class - an excellent representative for SMU.
